Michael Porter's WrestleBeat (1-30-05)
Hey Wrestling Fans! And welcome to another edition of WrestleBeat! I have more news and notes from the World of Professional Wrestling.
First up...here is a short update on Earthquake John Tenta and his ongoing battle with CANCER. It's not the TOTALLY good news that we have hoped for, but it is STILL hopeful!
'Quake says:
" Well.... the tumor is STILL there, although my doctor can't seem to tell if it's still cancer or scar tissue. She's recomending two more strong doses of chemo, followed by four six-week courses of a lighter chemo, so there you go, about seven more months of chemo.
'Quake"
Though it's NOT everything that we've hoped and prayed for...this cancer will STILL be DEFEATED!
Just keep those prayers going, and those well wishes coming! THANKS!
Now...I've just been informed that I am joining the staff on one of the ELITE Pro Wrestling websites in the world, and have been welcomed to WrestlingNewsWorld.com !
Following, was my OFFICIAL welcome by my old friend, Jason Gatties, as it appeared on WNW.com:
WNW welcomes Michael Porter to our staff
Written by Jason Gatties <mailto:jasongatties@gmail.com> on 01/27/2005
"Former WWF ring announcer and current host of UWA's(United Wrestling Alliance)Wrestleshoot TV program, Michael Porter, has joined the WNW staff as an indy reporter/columnist.
In the coming weeks, Michael will post up to date indy news as well as his wrestling column, Michael Porter's WrestleBeat. Both his news reporting and column will be a great fit to WNW's Indy section."
My thanks goes out to Jason AND WrestlingNewsWorld.com! It's GREAT to be aboard!
Alright...The WrestleShoot TV Tapings scheduled for Sunday January 30th, will now be held on Sunday February 13th. The reason for the change is due to the fact that several of the UWA Superstars will be in attendance at the WWE Royal Rumble in Fresno, CA. And then, the following Sunday, February 6th is Super Bowl Sunday, and most of the boys...INCLUDING me, will be in front of the boob-tube watching it! We, here at the UWA, including Rob Wilds, who's over-sight it was, SINCERELY apologize for ANY inconvience!
However, you can STILL join my co-host, Wildthing Rob Wilds and me, Michael Porter, for ALL the action, commentary, news, and interviews on WrestleShoot TV!
And once again, the tapings will take place at the UWA Academy of Professional Wrestling, which is located at the La Sierra Community Center 5325 Engle Rd. in Carmichael, CA. Taping begins at 3:00pm.
YOU can be there LIVE and In-Person for what is rapidly becoming a popular HAPPENING on the NorCal INDY Wrestling Scene! Seating is ABSOLUTELY FREE, and is available on a first-come, first-served basis. And you are invited to bring your cameras to take pictures of ALL the action!
One of our scheduled guests on Feb.13th will be UWA Commissioner, former UWA Hardcore Champion, Doug Damien.
Commissioner Damien will no doubt be discussing the actions of NEW UWA Hardcore Champion Chris Psycho Ward towards our SPECIAL GUEST from our last WrestleShoot TV Tapings, The Honky Tonk Man and the UWA Academy Champion Vega.
Damien will also be discussing the upcoming UWA Bar Show at Fat Cat's in Modesto, CA. on Thursday March 3rd, in which the Psycho One will be taking on WWE Legend and Hall of Famer Superfly Jimmy Snuka.
And there will also be more exciting UWA match-ups at the taping.
You just NEVER know who might show up for WrestleShoot TV! You HAVE to be there yourself to see just WHAT will happen and WHO will be there!
For directions to the La Sierra Community Center, you can log on to www.mapquest.com , then enter YOUR location, and then the address: 5325 Engle Rd. Carmichael, CA., wait a couple of moments, and you'll receive step-by-step directions to the Community Center.
For more information go to www.UnitedWrestlingAlliance.com !
Remember...that's Sunday February 13th 3:00pm at the UWA Academy of Professional Wrestling, located at the La Sierra Community Center 5325 Engle Rd. in Carmichael. BE THERE!
And now, on to the national news.
Thanks to the Wrestling Observer for the next story:
Rob Van Dam underwent reconstructive knee surgery Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, Alabama on Thursday to repair q torn ACL. He will be out of action for six months.
Next up, these next two stories come from from Joey Styles and 1Wrestling.com:
FORMER WCW, ECW, AND TNA STAR GETTING WWE TRYOUT
By: Joey Styles 1/27/2005
Psicosis will be getting a dark match tryout with WWE this Sunday before the Royal Rumble most likely at the behest of his friend, Rey Mysterio
WWE SMACKDOWN WILL NOT BE RENEWED ON UPN WHEN WWE'S CURRENT CONTRACT EXPIRES
By: Joey Styles 1/26/2005
From insidebayarea.com:
There's only one year left on the contract for World Wrestling Entertainment's "Smackdown!" and the network has decided to let it go.
"It still makes us a decent amount of money," says Leslie Moonves, co-president and co-chief operating office for Viacom, which owns both CBS and UPN. "When you think about the powerhouses of CBS and NBC on Thursday night, it's great counter-programming. (But) it doesn't fit into the overall (programming) strategy."
Georgiann Makropoulos and 1Wrestling reports this:
1/26/2005: WRESTLEREUNION FEVER IS RUNNING WILD!
Mega-Event Will Make History!
The eyes of the wrestling world are focused on Tampa, Florida this weekend, as the most impressive lineup of superstar talent ever assembled converges on the Doubletree Hotel Westshore by the Tampa Airport for WRESTLEREUNION. More than 80 top superstars have been signed to meet-and-greet fans, and many of them will also compete on a wrestling card that is on a caliber far above anything you have witnessed in years!
When promoters Sal Corrente and Rob Russen along with WRESTLEREUNION hosts Bill Apter and Diamond Dallas Page announced this magnificent venture the media world was quick to realize what a red-hot event WRESTLEREUNION was to become. Fox Sports’ Best Damn Sports Show Period took the lead, booking WRESTLEREUNION stars Ricky “The Dragon “ Steamboat, Bruno Sammartino, Dusty Rhodes, and Diamond Dallas Page to appear. ESPN Radio has had many of the superstars on their various programs in the past few weeks and WRESTLEREUNION superstars have also been all over the radio airwaves and interviewed in national newspapers and on Internet sites.
“I can’t wait to get to Tampa,” Dusty Rhodes, who made much of his fame and fortune in the state of Florida, said. “If you’re a wrestling fan you cannot afford to miss this event. It’s the biggest event in the history of our industry!”
Where there is excitement and positive vibes, you will always find rumors trying to offset an event of this magnitude.
“I’ve heard everything this last week, including the convention will be cancelled and of course that is not going to happen,” co-host Bill Apter reports. “Today I read that Terry Funk will not be wrestling on our card where he is scheduled to team with his brother Dory for the first time since 1999. The promoters spoke with Terry and he will wrestle - that’s the bottom line.”
Many fans are thrilled that wrestlers who are not easily accessible to them will be there.
“There is a huge buzz in the air about Jake Roberts,” Promoter Russen told us. “Jake has been living in the United Kingdom for years and now that he is back in the United States, we have got him in his very first appearance. This man is a legend in the wrestling business and his legion of fans are coming to see him at WRESTLEREUNION!”
Just think about this for a moment - over 80 pro wrestling superstars in a convention setting for you to mingle with along with a wrestling show that is so great if defies explanation - you just have to see it! How can you NOT be there? Go to www.wrestlereunion.com now to make your final plans!
This also comes from 1Wrestling.com:
Apparently, while on the set taping an episode of the WB's "Blue Collar TV" show, Jeff Jarrett was injured when a splinter flew into his eye after he performed the guitar shot on one of the local wrestlers used in the segment.
Jarrett was treated and released from a local Atlanta emergency room last night following the taping.
The injury doesn't appear to be serious, but Jarrett had previously underwent lasik surgery so he was taken to the emergency room last night as a precautionary measure.
The show however went well, and all TNA stars involved were asked to return later in the season for another skit on the show. For those wondering, representing TNA at the taping were Jeff Jarrett, A.J. Styles, Abyss, Don West, and Jeremy Borash.
Well, that does it for another edition of WrestleBeat. I'll be back next time with more news and notes from the Wonderful World of Professional Wrestling.
And so...since my Carpel-Tunnel surgery takes place this Monday Jan. 31st, I will FINALLYbe taking some time off from my WrestleBeat column, so I can prepare for, and recover from the surgery. If something IMPORTANT comes up in the world of Professional Wrestling, I WILL let you know (again) lol.
So, until next time, KEEP BOTH FEET ON THE MAT AND YOUR PUNCHES ABOVE THE BELT!
Later, Michael.
