WrestleShoot Report (TV Tapings for 3-13-05)
The WrestleShoot TV tapings for March 13th at the UWA Academy of Professional Wrestling inside the La Sierra Community Center in Carmichael CA. proved to be very interesting in more than a couple of ways!
The proceedings started out with two UWA match-ups.
1-First up, the NEW UWA Tag Team Champions, Rage & Steel (Full Metal Jacket) def. masked newcomers, The New Conquistadors, to retain the Tag Titles. Despite a little offense by The New Conquistadors, Full Metal Jacket remained in almost total control of this match, easily winning the contest.
2-Next up, Vega def. Wayne (DON'T call me "Bob") Backlund, who was accompanied by the lovely, Backlund-proclaimed "My Property", Lexie, to retain the UWA Academy Championship. Incidently, some of the young mostly-male fans sitting at ringside began a "BOBBY...BOBBY" chant, which highly dis-pleased Backlund. These same fans were most definitely taken with the young beauty, Lexie, including one young male who personally informed me that Lexie was too much of a "hottie" to be with Backlund!
From there, we went to the first of the day's two WrestleShoot TV episodes, which included some NEWS and NOTES and an interview with current UWA Hardcore Champion, Chris "Psycho" Ward.
Ward discussed his recent winning of the Hardcore Belt in a Battle Royal on a previous episode of WrestleShoot, and named his toughest opponents. Consequently, Ward named as his TOUGHEST opponent, former Hardcore Champion and current UWA Commissioner...my WrestleShoot co-host, Wildthing Rob Wilds. The Champ then mocked another of his toughest opponents, Ridiculous Mike Rayne, who came out. The two got into a shouting, pushing and shoving match, and had to be separated.
This led to setting a Hardcore Title match between the two later in the evening.
Also, Rob Wilds announced a possible SPECIAL appearance by Big Sexy Kevin Nash! More on this later.
This wrapped up the first WrestleShoot.
Then, we had two more matches.
3-In a match for the UWA Cruiserweight Championship, the Champion, The Flamboyant Rik Luxury, retained his Title by turning back the challenge of the High-Flying Dante. This was a GREAT match-up of two high-risk, high-fliers, in an extremely entertaining exhibition of technical wrestling AND hard-hitting action, which was well-received by the studio audience!
4-The next match saw Wayne Backlund, once again accompanied by the Lovely Lexie, defeat the masked Mister Mister by submission, when Backlund applied the Cross-Face Chicken-Wing. Once again, the "BOBBY...BOBBY" chant incensed Backlund and disrupted his train of thought, to the point where Backlund nearly destroyed his opponent with the deadly maneuver. In fact, when Backlund refused to release the hold, UWA Academy Champion jumped in to forcr Backlund into releasing it. What ensued was a battle between the two. Finally when the two were finally separated, UWA Commissioner Rob Wilds announced that at the next WrestleShoot TV tapings, Vega would, once again defend his Academy Championship against Wayne Backlund!
On a SPECIAL note...the nice-sized and VOCAL crowd, while disliking Backlund, have obviously fallen in love with Lexie and are letting her know it! And this is bothering Mr. Backlund to NO END!
We then taped the next episode of WrestleShoot, in which Wildthing Rob Wilds announced that Kevin Nash had arrived at the Academy!
The lights turned off...the sounds of "The nWo Wolfpack" Theme Song played, heralding the arrival of Big Sexy Kevin Nash!
The lights came back on, and sitting there, on the WrestleShoot TV Interview Table was...a Kevin Nash Action Figure! WHAT THE HELL?
Rob Wilds proceeded to "shoot" on Kevin Nash, for a recent (November 2004) UWA appearance by Nash, in which Nash appeared lazy in an extremely short, dud of a match with UWA Heavyweight Champion, the MASSIVE Native American, Warpath. Warpath had tried to carry Nash to a decent match, but Nash appeared not to care about being there OR putting on a good show. Wilds claimed that Nash was only interested in collecting his appearance fee!
Wilds then brings out a BLOW-TORCH, and blasts the Nash Action Figure with it, burning "Nash" like Rob felt that Nash burned the UWA back in November.
Then Rob leaves the WrestleShoot set and goes out into an area where the UWA Superstars were seated, in anticipation of the Nash appearance. They were stunned and disappointed! Rob spoke to them. I continued my duties as host, and continued on with more News and Notes.
Wilds returns to the announce position, where he calls into the ring ALL of the, in-attendance UWA talent, who proceeds to TOTALLY destroy the Nash Action Figure with flying elbows, legdrops, fists, and even Dante brings out a pocket-knife, to make HIS "point"! This was HILARIOUS! But, it was also a SERIOUS commentary and "shoot" by Rob Wilds on a "Superstar" who comes into an INDY fed, takes the money, and runs. And may I state here and now, that these actions were taken on the behalf of Rob Wilds and the UWA. They don't necessarily reflect the opinions of THIS writer.
Thus ended the second episode of WrestleShoot TV! WHEW!
Following the tapings, we had two more UWA match-ups.
5-In a battle of BIG men, 1/2 of the UWA Tag Team Champions of Full Metal Jacket, Steel w/ partner Rage at ringside, defeated Kered the Klown in a bruising, hard-hitting match.
6- And finally, in the Main Event of the day, for the UWA Hardcore Championship, the Champion, Chris "Psycho" Ward defeated Ridiculous Mike Rayne to retain the Title. This bout had a little bit of everything in it, including the use of trash cans, street signs, chairs, and a TV tray. Ward and Rayne took their fight all over the studio...then taking it outside into the parking lot, and ONCE AGAIN, the outdoor Port-a-Potty and the outside wall of the building came into play! And the battle, from there, spilled OVER the fence and onto the BASEBALL FIELD, with the studio audience AND the cameramen followed the action and the battle all the way!
And finally, the two combatants returned back into the studio and, of all places...THE RING, where Ward was finally able to pin Mike Rayne and retain the Hardcore Title!
And so, a VERY eventful and action-filled day of WrestleShoot TV tapings came to an end!
The NEXT tapings of WrestleShoot TV will take place on Sunday April 10th at 3:00pm. The reason for the FOUR weeks in between tapings, is due to the fact that the normal TWO weeks would fall on Easter Sunday. And the following week is WrestleMania 21 from Los Angeles. Thus...we will be back at the UWA Academy of Professional Wrestling at the La Sierra Community Center in Carmichael, CA. WE WILL SEE YOU THEN!
