Michael Porter's WrestleBeat (8-29-04)
Hey Wrestling Fans! And welcome to another edition of WrestleBeat! I got some INTERESTING news and notes from around the World of Professional Wrestling!
First off, the date is now OFFICIALLY set for the next UWA Event. It will be held on Saturday November 13th at the La Sierra Community Center in Carmichael, California. The date change coincides with the upcoming opening of the UWA Professional Wrestling Academy.
The Main Event of the evening remains the same, with the UWA Heavyweight Champion, the MASSIVE Native American, Warpath, putting his title on the line against the challenge of The Rocker, Marty Jannetty. It was recently brought to my attention that I mistakenly referred to Marty and his former Tag Team partner, Shawn Michaels being former WWF/E Tag Team Champions. I apologize for being inaccurate about this. The Rockers, surprisingly, were never the Tag Champions. Marty DID hold the straps at one point, with The Kid (aka The 1-2-3 Kid, Syxx, X-Pac, Sean Waltman). And, Shawn first won the belts with his partner, the then-Diesel (Kevin Nash).
Also, originally scheduled to appear for the November Event was Doink the Clown. However, due to the date change, Doink was forced to cancel his appearance, sending his regrets, and hoping to appear for the UWA at a later date. In his place, the UWA is in negotiations to bring in for the Nov.13th Event, The Mighty Midgets! Others scheduled to appear on November 13th are UWA Tag Team Champions Chris "Psycho" Ward and Marko Bliskin, UWA Cruiserweight Champion, Rediculous Mike Rayne, UWA Hardcore Champion, Big Ugly J.D. Bishop, and MANY others! I understand that the UWA is also hoping to bring in TNA's Frankie Kazarian for Nov. 13th! And, I am STILL awaiting information on the possibility of my upcoming comfrontation with that sleaze-ball, Ric Micheals, in regards to our "loser leaves UWA" interlude. Again, I will have more in the next edition of WrestleBeat.

And now, on to the news. First up, following in the footsteps of his grandfather, Peter Maivia, Dwayne Johnson, The Rock was crowned a "High Chief" after paying an emotional visit to his mother, Ata's native Samoa a couple of weeks ago. The Rock was given the title "son of Malietoa" by His Highness Malietoa Tanumafili II. The Rock says, "I've never cried so much. It was a life-changing moment. It's way deeper than an honorary title - it's blood." The Rock, who has donated $50,000 to Samoan causes, hopes to return to the island. He also added, "This trip made me extremely proud of my heritage and culture."
This comes from Slam Sports. Bret Hart has once again updated his column for the Calgary Sun. His latest column states that he points the finger at the WCW Power Plant for ending his career. He says that if Goldberg would have been trained properly at the plant, his career may not have been cut short. Bret says, “I always took great pride in never injuring any of my opponents. How ironic my career was cut short when Bill Goldberg inadvertently booted me in the head in 1999. A transplanted nose tackle from the Atlanta Falcons, Goldberg learned his wrestling at WCW's Powerplant training camp, where I don't think it was a priority to protect your opponent”
According to Pro Wrestling Insider, WWE Superstar, Chavo Guerrero was legitametly hurt at the SMACKDOWN tapings Tuesday night (and airing this past Thursday night) in Fresno when he was on the recieving end of a Shooting Star Press from Billy Kidman. Guerrero remained on the mat after the match. He was out cold for a few minutes. He suffered a concussion and was taken to the hospital and held overnight for observation. He has since been released, but it was a scary situation. Jamie Noble was all shaken up and there were a dozen officials and EMTs in the ring. The concerned crowd gave him a "Chavo!" chant and a huge ovation as he was wheeled out of the arena. Both Stephanie McMahon and Agent John Laurinaitis came out and met the stretcher at the curtain area.
And finally, for those of you in the Sacramento area, THIS Tuesday night, August 31st, WWE SMACKDOWN will be taping at Arco Arena! Showtime is 7:00pm. Show up and maybe you'll see yourself on camera this Thursday night on UPN!
Well, that does it for this edition of WrestleBeat. I'll be back next time with more news and notes from the Wild, Wacky, Rollercoaster of Emotion World of Professional Wrestling! So, until then, remember KEEP BOTH FEET ON THE MAT AND YOUR PUNCHES ABOVE THE BELT. Later, Michael
