Michael Porter's WrestleBeat (9-7-04)
Hey Wrestling Fans! I'm back with another edition of WrestleBeat, with more news and notes from around the World of Professional Wrestling.
But, before I get to everything, I would like to hereby invite owners and bookers of INDY Wrestling groups from around California AND the country, to send me information on your upcoming events, which I may include in future editions of WrestleBeat. You MUST include your REAL name (NOT your posting I.D.), the name of your promotion, your position with your organization, and a contact number for verification purposes. I look forward to hearing from you! However...ONLY serious owners and bookers PLEASE! You can reach me and send me all of the appropriate information to my e-mail address, which is located at the end of this column.
Alright, onto the business at hand. Once again, the UWA Academy of Professional Wrestling is NOW accepting applications. Don't be fooled by cheap, credential-lacking, shady schools in a bad part of town any longer. If you think you have what it takes to work in the greatest business in the world then your most guaranteed foot in the door is the United Wrestling Alliance Academy Of Professional Wrestling. The wrestling trainers consist of Chris "Psycho" Ward (who trained under Mike Modest) and retired pro wrestler Rob Wilds. The academy's training staff also consists of our professional gymnastics instructor, Dione Walker. Marty Jannetty will also be conducting an exclusive tutorial in November. The Academy guarantees a lot of one on one training as we only accept 10 students at a time, so once a spot is open, sign up immediately as they will go fast! For more information or contact info, go to www.unitedwrestlingalliance.com .
Also, the UWA is returning to the La Sierra Community Center in Carmichael, California on Saturday November 13th
In the Main Event of the evening, the UWA Heavyweight Champion, the MASSIVE Native American, Warpath, putting his title on the line against the challenge of The Rocker, Marty Jannetty.
Also, the UWA is still in negotiations to bring in for the Nov.13th Event, The Mighty Midgets! Others scheduled to appear on November 13th are UWA Tag Team Champions Chris "Psycho" Ward and Marko Bliskin, UWA Cruiserweight Champion, Rediculous Mike Rayne, UWA Hardcore Champion, Big Ugly J.D. Bishop, The UWA Kid, Rage and Steel (Full Metal Jacket) and MANY others! The UWA is also still hoping to bring in TNA's Frankie Kazarian for Nov. 13th! Also, the UWA has been in contact with Vinnie Massaro, hoping to bring him in.
I am STILL awaiting ANY word or information on the possibility of a comfrontation with Ric Micheals. I am beginning to get anxious and impatient in regards to our "loser leaves UWA" situation. I will have more for you WHENEVER I get the information myself.
The UWA also is trying to bring in Jason Styles, Wildstorm, Sarah DelRay, and Valentina J. Love for future appearances.

And now, on to the news:
First up, according to PWInsider.com , Dr. Tom Prichard has been officially released by WWE. No reason has been announced at this time, but it happened today and came apparently very suddenly.
Apparently, Tommy Dreamer will be taking over Prichard's responsibilities with WWE, including the work Dr. Tom did in the WWE developmental program. Dreamer was sent to OVW earlier in the week and announced to the guys he was there to observe the developmental process.
As things turned out, Dreamer was there to prepare for his new responsibilities, whether he was at the time aware of it or not.
As a follow-up to a report from the last edition of WrestleBeat, I would like to thank Matthew Boone for the following: Hulk Hogan has finally responded to Randy Savage's "Be A Man" comment at the MTV Video Music Awards over the weekend. Savage of course made the remark on a promotional tour last year where he promoted his rap CD.
"Every time I wrestle Mach, I beat him up pretty bad," said Hogan. "I heard he's having a pretty tough time. If he can get a little oil in that wheelchair and get those legs pumped up - because those legs are about the size of my arms - I'll beat Macho Man up one more time. But this time it won't be so hard. God bless Miss Elizabeth, she's not here, so I'll just beat Macho up for free. No big deal."
Hogan also had the following to say about rapper Sean "Puffy" Combs' challenge to wrestle him for $1 million.
"I know a million dollars ain't that big of a hit to him. So if he's gonna get beat up, he might as well make it a hundred million dollars. I can't ever lose in front of my daughter. But I've got a lot of respect [for P. Diddy]. I saw him run for those kids in New York. So it's all good. If it's a million dollars for the kids, if he wants to put that up, I'll let him beat me."
Hogan was at the VMA's to help promote his daughter Brooke's single "Everything to Me." Hogan actually makes a cameo appearance toward the end of the video.
From Webwire.com comes the following Press Release:
NEW MOVIE: “STING-Moment of Truth” Depicts Radical Transformation of Wrestling Superstar
Life was one high-flying act for wrestling superstar Steve Borden, a.k.a. “Sting.” Donning his outrageous black and white face paint and costume, Sting stormed to the top of the wrestling profession. He captivated more than half a billion people worldwide. Ten times he captured the World Championship Wrestling title. Twice he pinned wrestling legend Hulk Hogan. Sting reaped the money, power and popularity of being an international superstar.
Behind the costume and the glamour of big time wrestling, though, Steve Borden was pinned flat on his back. His life was in shambles. Steve’s marriage faltered on the brink of failure. His addiction to prescription drugs was destroying him. The champion of the world and the inventor of the Scorpion Death Lock was now seeing his world crash down upon him.
But then a miracle happened. Facing the biggest challenge of his life, Steve Borden found his life and marriage dramatically transformed. How did this wrestling champion conquer the biggest battle of his life?
The story of Sting’s transformation is now dramatically depicted in the highly anticipated new movie, STING-Moment of Truth.
Presented by Dove Canyon Films and directed by George King, STING-Moment of Truth, is not for the timid. It throws the viewer into the ring and presents the raw brute force that is professional wrestling. It also depicts the incredible story of how God brought peace to a wrestler after wrestling the self-sufficient and prideful champion to his knees.
From Scorpion Death Lock to Spiritual Life, STING-Moment of Truth is the story of a transformed life that was on the brink of destruction. The movie also includes feature appearances by mega-superstars Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, Jeff Jarrett, Kevin Nash, Scott Hall, and Randy Savage.
STING-Moment of Truth is being released to retailers on October 12, 2004.

And finally, I am looking forward to the WWE Unforgiven PPV, this Sunday, Sept. 12th! The match I'm looking forward to the MOST is the Randy Orton-HHH match-up for the World Heavyweight Championship. This match will prove BEYOND all reasonable doubt, that Orton IS ready to "carry the ball" for WWE. I think that WWE will start back on an UPWARD trend, beginning with this RAW PPV, and that, hopefully SMACKDOWN will follow soon.
Well, that does it for another edition of WrestleBeat. I'll be back again next time with more news and notes from the Wonderful World of Professional Wrestling.
So until next time, KEEP BOTH FEET ON THE MAT AND YOUR PUNCHES ABOVE THE BELT. Later, Michael
