Michael Porter's WrestleBeat (9-21-04)
Hey Wrestling Fans! And welcome to another edition of WrestleBeat! I have some more news and notes from the World of Professional Wrestling, so let's get on to business.
But first, I would like to dedicate this edition of WrestleBeat to my Mother, Geraldine Onstine, who passed away 5 years ago today, on September 21, 1999 at 4:00pm at Enloe Hospital in Chico, California, as a result of congestive heart failure and a series of strokes. She died just 11 days shy of her 75th birthday. Mom...I love you and I miss you very much!
Thank you for indulging me in my paying respect to my Mother. Since this is a rather difficult day for me, I'm going to keep this WrestleBeat column rather short.
Anyways, before I get to the news, I would like to remind you again, that if you are an owner or a booker of an INDY Wrestling organization around California or anywhere in the country, if you would like me to mention your events, just send me the information on your upcoming events, and I may include you in future editions of WrestleBeat. You MUST include your REAL name (NOT just your posting I.D.), the name of your promotion, your position with your organization, and a contact number, just for verification purposes. I STILL look forward to hearing from you! I WOULD like to help you and your promotion get some more publicity for your upcoming events! However, once again, I ask that ONLY serious owners and bookers contact me...PLEASE! You can reach me and send me all of the appropriate information to my e-mail address, which is located at the end of this column.
Alright, first up, I would like to remind you about the upcoming UWA Event on Saturday Nov. 13th in Carmichael, CA., in which the Main Event of the evening will feature the Massive Native American, Warpath, will defend his UWA Heavyweight Championship against the challenge of former WWF/E Superstar, The Rocker Marty Jannetty.
Also, the UWA Academy of Professional Wrestling IS currently accepting applications for their Training Center.
For MORE information on the Nov.13th UWA Event AND the UWA Academy of Professional Wrestling, go www.unitedwrestlingalliance.com and you can receive the LATEST up-to-date goings-on in the UWA. And, I will get you more info myself, just as soon as I receive it.
The following is a special update from Georgiann Makropoulos from 1wrestling.com and concerns a very serious health crisis that she, personally is going through. I would like to extend my Best Wishes to Georgie for her quick, speedy, and complete recovery!
"I have been thinking about writing this for two weeks now. I wasn't sure if I was going to go public with this news or not, but thought it was important to be honest.
I have been diagnosed with cancer, which was a shock.
I will be having surgery on September 29th for a hysterectomy. My doctor tells me it's in the very early stages (which is good) and after the surgery I should be ok. (God willing)
I want to stress to EVERYONE how very important it is to test at least once a year. Early detection is URGENT.
The reason I have decided to let everyone know, is to bring awareness to the problem of this dreaded disease.
I will be updating until Sunday. I want to get in all the contests before then. My snail mail Wrestling Chatterbox Newsletter will also be mailed out before I go into the hospital."
If you would like to send a note to Georgie, please do so by sending your Get Well wishes to the following e-mail address : GMakpoulos@aol.com> Thank you! And I'm sure that Georgie would appreciate your well wishes!
A kidney donor is still desperately needed for Mean Gene Okerlund. Earlier this week, we learned of Mean Gene in need of the transplant. Further details reveal that a recent transplant attempt was made for Okerlund, but failed because of a blood clot.
If anyone would seriously like to consider being a donor for Mean Gene, please call the University of Minnesota Transplant Center @ 612-625-5115.
Thanks to Niel Stephens for this report:
The following was taken from a Ottawa Sun article: Jackie Gayda and Charlie Haas are a great combination in the ring ... and it turns out they're a dynamic duo outside, too. Haas and Miss Jackie are engaged to be married sometime next year. No, not as part of another WWE wedding angle ... in real life. Haas got down on one knee and proposed at Miss Jackie's Orlando townhouse two weeks ago "It was very intimate, very romantic," said Miss Jackie the other day in a visit to the Sun office. "He asked my parents for permission first. It was very cool." "That's my mom and dad's upbringing," said Haas. "He has a fantastic family," said Miss Jackie. "And my family loves him to death."
Thanks to Devin T. Cutting and 1wrestling.com for the following:

Well, on last night's WWE RAW, Mr. Vince McMahon made his HUGE announcement. This announcement being that the next RAW PPV, entitled "Taboo Tuesday" will be held on Tuesday (of course) Oct. 19th, and that this PPV would be Fan Interactive, meaning that WWE fans will be able to help choose the matches and match stipulations! A VERY interesting concept! Mr. McMahon has already made one match, this being Eric Bischoff being ordered to participate as a wrestler in a match, facing his nephew, Eugene. The fans will be able to decide which type of match this is going to be. Funny stuff!
Also, thankfully, the RAW Diva Search concluded, with the winner being announced by The Coach as Christy Hemme, the fiery red-head from Los Angeles, California, who will receive a 1 year $250,000 contract with the WWE and RAW. Thus, the much-maligned Carmella DeCesare was sent packing in this finale of the Diva Search. It's about time, BOTH for the finish of Carmella AND the Diva Search!
And it looks like the end of the Lita pregnancy angle...at least sort of, as Lita "lost" her's and Kane's baby at "a medical facility", causing Lita's trance-like stare and Kane's fit of anger and his grief. He has stated that Gene Snitsky, the wrestler who hit Kane in the back with a steel chair last week on RAW, sending Kane crashing onto Lita's stomach, thus forcing Lita to lose the baby, "is a DEAD-MAN!" It appears that Kane's seemingly genuine sorrow at the loss of his child MAY lead to a babyface turn, as Snitsky cut a heel-like promo, declaring that "it wasn't MY fault...it wasn't MY fault".
Well, that does it for this shortened edition of WrestleBeat. I am going to be taking a short hiatis from WrestleBeat, but I WILL be back with more news and notes from the Wonderful World of Professional Wrestling.
So, until next time, remember KEEP BOTH FEET ON THE MAT AND YOUR PUNCHES ABOVE THE BELT. Later, Michael.
