Ever notice that line portability charge on your phone line that you've been paying for years? Well, you know that "keep your number" stuff with cell phones? That's what you've been paying for, even though it's supposed to exist within reasonable limitations on land lines. I mean, you cross central offices, all bets are off, it really is a big hassle for the telco to program that number into their switch.
So, anyhow, who has cell phones? Probably everyone. Any recommendations? Any complaints?
The number you guys find on my web site is a cell number of mine, which overall is the best number to call me at. Not that it makes a bit of difference, but it's Cingular and it has the mobile2mobile service on it, meaning if you have it too, the call is free to all involved. Service has been mostly OK, but it doesn't work at my mother's house.
I also have Verizon, which I use for business. Got some issues with call dropping and overall quality. Let me say that their commercial with the dude saying "Can you hear me now? Good." is, well, a load of post-digestive processing of male bovines. Too many holes. Seriously, the service isn't that bad, but it doesn't work at my in-laws house. Customer service in-store sucks, while the phone service was really good.
I also carry and usea 2-way pager. Man, that has saved my butt a few times!
Nextel, I liked their service but cancelled it since it never worked at my house, where I needed it the most. The 2-way was great and the rate with the free incoming calls just kicked some major butt because I get more calls than I place.
AT&T is fairly good, but it took them 14 months to STOP BILLING!!! They even got nasty about it, despite the written notice they signed for formally cancelling the service when the user said they cancelled. Rare, annoying, but also possible with any provider.
Cingular seems the most immature of the bunch, being more oriented towards consumers, while AT&T and Verizon and Sprint seem more business aware. Nextel has their own niche customers, but also has one of the smaller coverage areas.
What are you guys and girls using? Post your experiences.
