Michael Porter's WrestleBeat (10-24-04)
Hey Wrestling Fans! Welcome to another edition of WrestleBeat! I'm here with more news and notes from the Wonderful World of Professional Wrestling. So, let's get right to business.
This edition of WrestleBeat includes a number of Medical Updates of Superstars and retired Superstars and Legends.
First up, The BIG UWA Event is rapidly approaching, as on Saturday Night November 13th, the UWA returns to the La Sierra Community Center 5325 Engle Road in Carmichael, CA.!
Belltime is set for 7:00pm (Doors open at 6:00pm)
In the Main Event of the evening, for the UWA Heavyweight Championship, the Champion, the MASSIVE Native American, Warpath will now put his Title on the line, as he faces the challenge of the VERY talented Vinny Massaro.
Also, in the Semi-Main Event, The Mighty Midgets return to the UWA Ring, with Short Sleeve Sampson taking on Todd Stone, in what will surely be a HUGELY popular, FAMILY, fun-filled, entertaining match-up!
And, in a featured bout, which is a Loser Leaves UWA Match...yours truely, Michael Porter is set to take on UWA Manager of Champions, Ric Micheals. Now, as I stated in my last WrestleBeat, I understand that Micheals has been undergoing intense training for this match-up. And, I have to admit that, as the days pass quickly, I find myself getting more and more nervous and anxious about this match! I'm hoping that ALL of my friends, as well as those of you who regularly read WrestleBeat and who used to listen to my WrestleShoot Radio show, will turn out to cheer me on in my quest to remain in the UWA!
And, for you BTW (Big Time Wrestling) Fans in the Bay Area, I understand that YOUR Ring Announcer, my old friend...the One-and-Only Allan Bolte, will be the Special Guest Ring Announcer for this UWA Event! Now, I've known Allan since the late-60's and early-70's when we both worked for Legendary Bay Area promoters, Roy Shires and Louie Miller! It will be GREAT seeing Allan Bolte after all these years!
I will anounce MORE matches as I receive the news.

The UWA Academy of Professional Wrestling is now up and running! I, personally paid a visit to the Academy last week and was VERY impressed with the professionalism of the school, the location, AND especially, a couple of the trainees! There is DEFINITELY going to be some fine talent coming out of this facility!

Alright...on to the news.
We have some GREAT news regarding Mean Gene Okerlund, and his health concerns, from Georgiann Makropoulos and 1wrestling.com . Georgie says "Thanks goes to Dr. Mike Lano for this update.":
"Gene Okerlund just emailed me a long one.
Gene just had kidney replacement surgery and is doing better each day getting his strength back- his son gave the kidney!
Said he'll be back up filming more 24/7 in 3 weeks as he gets stronger."
A SPECIAL UPDATE ON MEAN GENE: Gene has undergone a SECOND transplant surgery and is now HOME recuperating!
This IS indeed great news for Mean Gene! Gene was one of my favorite people to hang around with at WWF TV Tapings! He always had a GREAT story to tell! There is only ONE problem...I CAN'T tell nary a one in this family-oriented column. lol Way to go, Mean Gene! And, GOD BLESS your son!
From WWE.com comes this update on Dr. Death Steve Williams:
Dr. Death Steve Williams is back in the hospital for further surgery to treat throat cancer. Williams underwent a laryngectomy (removal of the voice box) earlier this month.
This time the doctors will be taking a piece of skin from Williams’ leg and use it to patch a hole in his throat. The procedure takes approximately 10 hours, and Williams will be out for approximately 24 hours.
The surgery is being done in hopes that Williams will eventually be able to speak again.
Williams appreciates all of the support he has received from the WWE fans and asks for their continued support and prayers in this time of need.
THIS IS A LETTER SENT BY STEVE WILLIAMS TO TED DIBIASE, PLEASE PRAY FOR STEVE. HE REALLY NEEDS US NOW.
By: Georgiann Makropoulos (10/21/2004) "Ted DiBiase sent this to Bill Watts-----its from Steve Williams."
HI EVERYONE
IT'S ABOUT 9:00 HOUSTON TIME, WE JUST GOT BACK FROM THE HOSPITAL.
WILL EVERYONE PLEASE TAKE TIME OUT AND PRAY FOR ME TOMORROW IT'S GOING TO BE A VERY TOUGH OPERATION, AS THE DOC SAID TO US, THEY ARE GOING TO TAKE SKIN FROM MY LEG AND PATCH A HOLE IN MY THROAT.
WHY YOU ASK IS THIS GOING TO BE TOUGH, IT'S BECAUSE THE RADIATION I HAD, MY THROAT IS NOT HEALED YET BUT THEY CAN'T WAIT ANY LONGER FOR THE FISTULA WILL DIE AND I WILL BE IN SOME BIG TROUBLE AND WE WILL BE FOR A LONG TIME.
SO PLEASE TAKE TIME FOR ME I REALLY NEED MY FRIEND TO SAY A GOOD ONE, I KNOW HE WATCH ALL THE WAY, HE'S IN CONTROL YES.
BUT THIS BIG GUY IS SCARED TO DEATH, IT WILL TAKE THEM 10 HOUR TO THIS SO I'LL BE OUT FOR 24 HOURS THEY SAY.
OK GANG I LOVE YA SO MUCH AND I PRAY THAT I'LL BE ABLE TO TALK SOON, GOD BLESS.
OH IT ALL STARTS AT 5:45 AND I'LL TOUCH BASE WITH YOU WHEN I GET DONE
GOOD LUCK, STEVE!!! I know that EVERYONE is praying for you!
And, I would like to remind and invite you to log on to www.unitedwrestlingalliance.com , and go to the EARTHQUAKE WATCH link for updates AND to pass on YOUR Best Wishes and prayers to Earthquake John Tenta, who is CURRENTLY undergoing treatment for cancer. You are also invited to post your memories of your favorite "EARTHQUAKE MOMENTS". EARTHQUAKE WATCH has been APPROVED by 'Quake himself! So...c'mon, log on, and post!
Next up, The Heartbreak Kid, Shawn Michaels suffered a torn meniscus in the three-way match at RAW on the Monday night prior Taboo Tuesday in Chicago and in fact, needs surgery. It wasn't definate whether or not he would work on Taboo Tuesday, even if he was voted in (and if he wasn't, he theoretically could've worked the tag match) But, as we all NOW know, he DID work, challenging Triple H for the World Championship, before falling to HHH. I hope that YOU will join me, as I would like to wish the best to Shawn for a complete and RAPID recovery from this injury!
And finally, from ProWrestlingTorch comes this regarding Pat Patterson, after his final WWE Event, the Taboo Tuesday PPV, went off the air:
"After the show went off the air Orton posed in the ring for a while, then when he was walking up the ramp, Vince McMahon came down and was clapping for him and raised his hand.
After Randy went to the back, Vince thanked all of the fans for coming out and asked us out of respect to stay a little bit longer for one man, one man who we would never see again in the WWE - Pat Patterson.
Patterson came out and McMahon gave a heartfelt thanks to Patterson, with the crowd giving him a standing ovation. Then McMahon demanded that Patterson sing Sinatra's ''My Way'' to close it out.
He sang the song, the crowd cheered, and Stephanie and Shane McMahon came out and there were hugs all around. Then Pat lip synced to the real song which played over the PA while walking up the aisle while Shane, Steph, J.R., and King all watched on. They all went to the back and Lilian thanked us for coming to the show."
Well, that does it for another edition of WrestleBeat. I'll be back again next time with more news and notes from the Wild, Wacky, and Wonderful World of Professional Wrestling.
So until next time, KEEP BOTH FEET ON THE MAT AND YOUR PUNCHES ABOVE THE BELT. Later, Michael
