Michael Porter's WrestleBeat (6-16-05)
Hey there again, Wrestling Fans! And welcome to another edition of WrestleBeat. I've got a lot of news and notes from the World of Professional Wrestling. So, let's get right to business.
The UWA returned to Fat Cat Music House and Lounge on Tuesday Night June the 14th for another GREAT Bar Show!
Here are the Quick Results, before a Fat Cat Personell-reported crowd of 116. I will have a more detailed report in the very near future.
The evening started out with the rocking sounds of LEFT HAND BLACK.
1) The Original Bad Apple-Joe Applebaumer def. Big Ugly J.D. Bishop to regain the B.R.A.W.L. Heavyweight Championship.
2) 2005 UWA Rookie of the Year, Ric Micheals def. Conquistador # 2.
3) The Innovator Vinnie Massaro def. D-Unit in a Round One Match in the UWA Heavyweight Championship Tournament. Massaro advances to the Round Two, which will be held when the UWA returns to Fat Cat's on Tuesday Night July 19th.
4) Modesto's own Rage (1/2 of the UWA Tag Team Champions, Full Metal Jacket) def. The BIZZARE Otis to advance to Round Two.
5) Modesto native, Steel (the other half of the Tag Team Champions) def. Sir Samurai to also advance.
Next up, NOTHING BUT LOSERS, a TERIFFIC rock band, which includes the brother of Steel, performed a high-energy set.
6) In a Teacher -vs- Pupil contest, Pupil, UWA Cruiserweight Champion, Vega def. Teacher, Wildthing Rob Wilds in an "I Respect You" Match.
7) UWA Hardcore Champion, Ridiculous Mike Rayne def. Kered to advance to Round Two of the Tournament.
8) Chris Ward def. Bonzai Bruce Bukkake to advance to Round Two.
9) Flamboyant Rik Luxury def D.J. Rizz to advance to Round Two.
10) Vega won the monthly Fat Cat Cup Battle Royal. The other participants were Big Ugly J.D. Bishop, D-Unit, Vinnie Massaro, Rage, Steel, Otis, Sir Samurai, Bonzai Bruce Bukkake, Ridiculous Mike Rayne, Kered, Chris Ward, Rik Luxury, D.J. Rizz, and Alex Vaughn.
Now, once again, the UWA will return to Fat Cat Modesto on Tuesday Night July 19th, with THREE Round Two matches in the UWA Heavyweight Championship Tournament. The participants will be The Innovator Vinnie Massaro, Rage, Steel, Ridiculous Mike Rayne, Chris Ward and Flamboyant Rik Luxury.
The three winners in Round Two will compete in the Finals, which will be a Triple Threat Match, with the winner being declared the NEW UWA Heavyweight Champion.
This Tournament came about after UWA Commissioner Wildthing Rob Wilds was forced to strip now-former Champion, the MASSIVE Native American Warpath for his failure to defend the Title within the required 60-day period of time.
I will announce the pairings in the Round Two Tournament matches, as well as other contests, as I receive the details from the UWA Booking Committee.
Also, I will be back SOON with a more detailed report on this GREAT night of UWA action from the June 14th UWA event at the Fat Cat Music House and Lounge in Modesto.
Next up, I WILL be in attendance, and probably working as Ring Announcer, as WCWA (West Coast Wrestling Alliance) returns to the WCWA Arena, located at 2312 Monument Blvd. (next to the Dome Theatre) in Pleasant Hill, THIS Saturday night June 18th at 7:00pm for another GREAT night of Pro Wrestling action!
The following comes from WCWA's Brian Elliot and www.wcwaprowrestling.com , as to the card so far:
"The main event is a King of the Mountain Match for the WCWA Title. It works like this:
HELFYRE (the Champion) starts the match as the King.
Each contender will have 5 minutes to topple the King. This can be done by pinfall, submission or throwing him over the top rope and having both of his feet hit the floor outside the ring.
If the King is not toppled at the end of the 5 minutes, the first contender must leave and is replaced by the second contender and so on. Of course, the King may end any challenge early by pinfall, submission, etc.
Any contender that topples the King becomes the champion and must take his place by facing the remaining contenders.
And, finally, as a consideration to our current Champion, if HELFYRE is defeated during any of these 4 matches, he automatically becomes the last challenger in the match and gets an opportunity to win back the belt after the 4th contender has his shot.
So, it is theoretically possible that the title can be lost and rewon in the same match. Making someone the shortest reigning champ in history. Anywhere.
I will not reveal the 4 contenders other than to say thay are all worthy of a shot at the belt and that none of them has yet received a title shot at HELFYRE.
You will find out who they are at exactly the same time HELFYRE does. I think it'll be more exciting that way.
Besides, Blackie says they WANT to be surprised. Be careful what you wish for.
In other action, Chance Calloway has signed to meet Rik Luxury, Steel will get a chance to regain the Pacific Rim Ring of Fire Title from Champion Alexis Schmirnoff Jr. and, as previously announced, Showtime Shane Dynasty will face Jason Vega in a non-sanctioned Dog Collar Match.
Also appearing will be the Bad Apples, Sir Samurai, Eric West and more...
Please be there for us so that we can be there for you. Your ticket sales keep us in business and we appreciate every one of you for coming out. Here's hoping more of you make the trip than last time!!!!!
Many thanks!

And now, on to the national news:
I hope that you were able to catch the ECW One Night Stand PPV! It was FREAKING AWESOME! If you DIDN'T get the LIVE broadcast, I whole-heartedly suggest that you order one of the replays! It IS worth the $34.95 cost...EASILY!
Some of MY favorite spots on the show included Super Crazy's MOONSAULT from the balcony onto the ENTIRE F.B.I. contingent! Then there was, of course the Main Event, pitting Tommy Dreamer and The Sandman vs. The Dudley Boyz in a BRUTAL, BLOODY, weapons-filled BRAWL, which brought out MANY other past-ECW Stars, including Francine and Beulah MaGillecutty, who got into one of their "cat-fights"!
And what can I say about the ECW-WWE Crusaders all-out BRAWL, brought on by the SURPRISE appearance of Stone Cold Steve Austin! It was WAR! However, the WWE Crusaders lasted all of about 30-45 seconds, before being dispatched, with one notable instance being Kurt Angle falling victim to ECW Taz (as opposed to WWE Tazz) and the Taz-mission.
Then, when the Hardcore Legend, Mick Foley, at Austin's insistance, brought RAW General Manager, Eric Bischoff to the ring and was DESTROYED by The Dudley Boyz (Dudley Death Drop), Chris Benoit (Diving Head-Butt), Rey Mysterio Jr. (6-1-9), and finally Steve Austin (Stone Cold Stunner), then dispatched from the Hammerstein Ballroom and on to a truck parked outside) by The Dudleys, THAT was a MAJOR highlight for ME!

Ric Flair has been dealing with some personal issues as of late and has been missing some scheduled WWE appearances as a result. Flair is said to be having some issues involving his wife & son, his gym business and personal finances. Although some people might hate hearing this, Flair's good friendship with Triple H allows him some extra "flexibility" among WWE management to take care of his personal issues without it making him look bad.
Joey Mercury (known before as Joey Matthews) is said reportedly getting a lot of credit for helping former Tough Enough winner Johnny Nitro progress as quickly as he has in the ring. On the flip side, Nitro is taking credit for helping Mercury develop a strong charisma and energy while he is in the ring as well.
Tommy Dreamer was apparently injured at the ECW One Night Stand.
Several people have indicated that he suffered a separated shoulder as well as a nasty cut to his ear.
ECW One Night Stand is expected to be released on DVD on 6/28 release. The production crew is working overtime to get this finished as soon as possible.

Several backstage sources are saying that there will be another ECW PPV in 2006. If the buyrates for this past ECW PPV come in high, they may even do something even sooner. The buyrates in the north-east united states are already very high, so if the rest of the country follows suit, there’s definitely a chance to see more of ECW very soon.
Everyone backstage is very impressed by Joey Styles’ commentary at the ECW PPV. Styles was heavily coached by not only Heyman, but also Jim Ross and Kevin Dunn as to what WWE was looking for in a commentator. Everyone thinks that he did very well. It is almost a sure thing that Joey will be announcing at the next ECW PPV.
Steve Austin confessed backstage that he believed drinking a beer with The Sandman did just as much for him as it did for Sandman. "Steve was cool about everything," says one ECW wrestler. Before the event, Mikey Whipwreck asked Austin if he minded him doing the Whipper Snapper (basically a Stone Cold Stunner off the second tope). Austin said he was cool with that, and admitted that he copied the move from Mikey in the first place, so of course he could do it.
Eric Bischoff is being praised for his professionalism that he showed throughout the ECW angle, and particularly on the night of the ECW PPV.
Spike Dudley appeared to be among the more disappointed wrestlers backstage during the event, due to his very limited role in the show.
There were some WWE wrestlers who expressed discomfort with even being at the show, since they felt out of place and unwelcome.
Andy Steven reports this:
CM Punk is expected to sign a WWE developmental deal within the next several days.
Apparently Tommy Dreamer's ear injury occurred when Bubba Ray Dudley caned him and Dreamer is seen clutching the ear immediately afterwards. It has been said that Dreamer has had some loss of hearing due to the injury.
Monday night on RAW, it was revealed that the latest RAW Draft Lottery pick was Kurt Angle. So, another MAJOR talent is GONE from SMACKDOWN. Could it be that SMACKDOWN's future Friday night timeslot could end up belonging to...ECW? Only time will tell.
Then, on the Tuesday Night SMACKDOWN tapings, their new Lottery pick was Randy Orton.
Well, that does it for another edition of WrestleBeat. I'll be back next time with more news and notes from the Wonderful World of Professional Wrestling.
So, until next time, KEEP BOTH FEET ON THE MAT AND YOUR PUNCHES ABOVE THE BELT! Later, Michael.
