Michael Porter's WrestleBeat (8-16-05)
Hey there again, Wrestling Fans! And welcome to another edition of WrestleBeat. I've got a lot of news and notes from the World of Professional Wrestling. So, let's get right to business.
However...I just wanted to remind his fans that it was 28 years ago today that Elvis Presley died in Memphis, Tennessee.
Alright...before I get to the business of Pro Wrestling...I am asking for your help! NO...NOT FOR MONEY, but some POSITIVE thoughts AND your prayers!
Last Monday August 8th, I went to my Doctor for a scheduled physical. After the EKG portion of the physical, I was informed that I had a blockage in a left portion of my HEART! That hit me like a ton of bricks! Anyway...I have been instructed to have a battery of tests that is to be performed by a heart specialist. I have an appointment set to see the specialist...Dr. Capos, on September 6th in Yuba City, CA.! As the results of these tests come in, it will be determined just how serious the blockage is, and then it will be decided which treatment or treatments will be necessary. The options right now are medication, an Angioplasty procedure, Heart By-Pass surgery, or FULL-BLOWN Open-Heart surgery!
Now...I KNOW that everything is going to be fine eventually, but it NEVER hurts to have your friends, supporters and others maybe saying a little prayer or thinking good thoughts for you!
But then, I ALSO know that there are some of you out there who can't stand me...for one reason or another. Maybe it's because I tell it like it is or I like it SHOULD be. And maybe you will hoping for the WORST for me. That's COOL too! Because...I believe that GOD is up there looking down at all of us, thinking and knowing what is in each of our hearts. And He knows what is best, what is right and what SHOULD be. And so...I'll leave it all in His hands!
So...now you know why I'm asking for some of your prayers and positive thoughts. It COULDN'T hurt! And for those of you who do...PLEASE allow me to THANK YOU in advance!
Alright...NOW to the business at hand:
I returned to Country 103.1 KKCY with my WrestleShoot segment on The Dave Logasa in the Morning show. I aired about 5 minutes late, at 8:15am this time, as Dave was on with an IMPORTANT Public Service Announcement for the 8:10am segment.
My WrestleShoot Report this week included an update from last week's show on Bret "Hitman" Hart, as I reported that even though Bret's plane DID indeed skid of the runway in Toronto, Canada last week, it was NOT the Air France plane that skidded of and burst into flames!
I also reported that since last Thursday, Bret DID sign with WWE and worked on the 3-DVD set for WWE Home Video, which is to be called "Bret 'Hitman' Hart...The Best is IS...the Best there WAS...and the Best There Ever WILL Be".
Also, I reported on Dr. Death Steve Williams RETURNING to the ring for the FIRST time since his surgery for the removal of his larnyx dur to THROAT CANCER.
This week's report also included the rumors going around that WrestleMania 23 MAY be held in Detroit, Michigan at Ford Field, the home of the NFL Detroit Lions, and that this will be the 20th Anniversary of WrestleMania III at the Silverdome in Pontiac, Michigan, which was held before over 93,000 spectators.
And finally, I reported that Marty Wright...aka The Boogeyman had hyperextended both of his knees at WWE House Shows a couple of weeks ago.
It was at this point that Dave turned to his side-kick, Briggs Moor and asked him if HE was The Boogeyman. I jumped in and said that since I had 5 Pro Wrestling Matches in my past, that WE could have a match LIVE on KKCY with Dave calling the blow-by-blow. I was asked if I was challenging Briggs to a match. I then went in to my best Classie Freddie Blassie impersonation, calling Briggs a "pencil-necked geek"...and with THAT, we ALL cracked up on the air!
With that, we were finished with this week's WrestleShoot Report.
I'll be back each and every Thursday on Country 103.1 KKCY at my regular time of 8:10am, with "Dave Logasa in the Morning".
The Dave Logasa in the Morning Show airs on KKCY every Monday thru Friday from 5:00am to 9:00am. Check his show out...IT'S COOL!

And now...on to the national news:
The following comes from www.FOXNews.com :
LOS ANGELES - Matthew McGrory, the deep-voiced 7-foot-6-inch actor who moved from appearances on Howard Stern's radio show to a high-profile role as a gentle giant in the movie "Big Fish," has died. He was 32.
McGrory died Tuesday at his home in Los Angeles, said director Drew Sky, who was working with him on his current movie, a biopic of wrestler-turned-actor Andre the Giant. Paramedics determined he died of apparent natural causes, police said.
McGrory, who had size 29 & 1/2 shoes, appeared on Stern's show in the 1990s and received other attention from the national media even before he became an actor. He attended law school and showed up in music videos before starting his career in Hollywood B-movies.
He played a human Sasquatch in 2001's "Bubble Boy," an alien in "Men In Black II" (2002) and Tiny in the Rob Zombie horror movies "House of 1000 Corpses" (2003) and its sequel released this year, "The Devil's Rejects."
His big break in Hollywood came in 2003 with Tim Burton-directed "Big Fish." Ewan McGregor's character refuses to be intimidated by the size of McGrory's Karl character, walking up to shake his hand.
Sky said he first met McGrory at a bar in 2000 and had been filming "Andre: Heart of the Giant" on and off for six months. He said that McGrory, who was from West Chester, Pa., felt a connection with the man he was playing, wrestler and "The Princess Bride" actor Andre Rousimmoff, who died in 1993.
"He felt the same way, that he would do anything just to be a person of regular size one day a week, where people don't have to stare at him, where he could go see a regular movie and walk down the street," Sky said.
Andy Steven reports this humorous piece:
HBO On Demand presently offers a feature in which pop culture figures re-enact scenes from "Entourage." According to PWTorch.com's Josh Shackelford, "One of the most humorous scenes features former WWE stars Dallas Page, Jake Roberts, Nikolai Volkoff, and Jimmy Snuka re-enacting a scene about first time sexual encounters."
(A NOTE FROM ME)...I have seen this "Entourage" re-enactment...and it is HILARIOUS! I also decided to record it. The only one of the four that I don't know or haven't worked with is Diamond Dallas Page. Jimmy looks good! Nikolai looked a little out of place. Dallas looked like Dallas. And even Jake looked pretty good! This must have been taped following his recent hip replacement surgery, as he did NOT have a noticable limp.
These stories also come from Andy Steven:
Mike Johnson of PWInsider confirmed that he heard from two separate sources, that Frankie Kazarian will be released by World Wrestling Entertainment. At this present moment it is unknown if it was Kazarian that requested to be released or if WWE decided to let him go.
Partial Source: WrestlingObserver.com
Shawn Michaels has a 320 page autobiography which is set to be released this November. The book jacket of his book has been revealed. Below is the official description of the book:
"He's one of the most charismatic showmen ever to grace a WWE ring. If a back injury hadn't hampered Shawn Michaels' in-ring career, there's no telling what the "Heartbreak Kid" would have accomplished. As it was, he accomplished more that anyone at the time. But Michaels doesn't necessarily have to lace up the wrestling boots to be an instrumental part of WWE programming. This novel chronicles his life story."
Hulk Hogan, Roddy Piper, Jerry Lawler, Bruce Pritchard, Shawn Michaels, Chris Benoit and Jim Ross have all filmed interviews for the new Bret Hart DVD. Two people refused to say a bad word about Bret Hart and they were Benoit and JR.
For some reason, WWE higher-ups seemed intent on having the interviewer (Steve Lombardi) ask questions to get the wrestler talking to go off on Bret. Lombardi would say something like, "Bret thinks he's the greatest technical wrestler who ever lived" in an effort to get them to speak negatively on Bret.
These reports come from Ryan Clark:
Dusty Rhodes has signed a WWE Legends contract which will enable WWE to use his likeness on WWE 24/7, DVD's and books in the future. Several former WWE Superstars signed the same contract including Roddy Piper, Paul Bearer, Jerry Lawler, Billy Graham and others. While on the WWE.com show Byte This, Rhodes also said that he's close to signing on a different kind of contract with the company, one that will enable him to be part of the creative team headed up by Stephanie McMahon. Rhodes served similar posts in WCW and TNA.
And this update on Frankie Kazarian:
From Frankie's official website, www.thefuturefrankiekazarian.com,
Kazarian Gone From WWE
Frankie Kazarian has parted ways with World Wrestling Entertainment as of Saturday evening. Kazarian wishes WWE all the best in their future endeavors.
We'll have an official statement from Frankie right here this week. Thank you again for all your continued support.
(MY THOUGHTS ON THIS): I believe that Frankie Kazarian will head back to TNA.
Dave Meltzer reports that Chris Tolos, who formed a lengthy tag team with younger brother John, passed away earlier this week at the age of 75 in Hamilton, Ontario.
John had gotten the word earlier that his brother was dying and had returned to their childhood home of Hamilton to be with him.
The Tolos Brothers held tag team titles all over North America during the 50s and 60s, before splitting up when Chris wanted off the road. John had probably his greatest success in California as a singles wrestler in the 70s.
Tim Brown reports that WWE.com has announced that the Rey Mysterio vs. Eddie Guerrero match will now be a ladder match, in addition to being for the custody of Dominick.
PWInsider reports that there is also a story floating around that it would be a ladder match with the custody papers for Dominick hanging above the ring, rather than a belt.
On Monday Night RAW, Ashley Massaro from New York, was named the 2005 RAW Diva Contest winner, receiving $250,000 and a WWE contract. Ashley responded to "Coach's" question about where she goes from here. Ashley shouted out "I'm going to Summer Slam!".
Look for the returning WWE Woman's Champion, Trish Stratus to re-enter the women's division and possibly attacking the NEW WWE Diva.
Well, that does it for another edition of WrestleBeat. I'll be back next time with more news and notes from the World of Professional Wrestling.
So, until next time, KEEP BOTH FEET ON THE MAT AND YOUR PUNCHES ABOVE THE BELT! Later, Michae
