Michael Porter's WrestleBeat (8-30-05)
Hey there again, Wrestling Fans! And welcome to another edition of WrestleBeat. I've got a lot of news and notes from the World of Professional Wrestling. So, let's get right to business.
Up first...I returned to Country 103.1 KKCY in the Marysville/Yuba City, CA. areas at 8:15am on Thursday for another edition of Michael Porter's WrestleShoot on the Dave Logasa in the Morning show.
Dave opened up by asking me about the WWE Summer Slam PPV and I gave results of the MAIN contests.
I also discussed the recent separation in the marriage of Kurt Angle and his wife, Karen.
From there, I went to wishing my old boss from my time in the WWF, Vincent Kennedy McMahon, a belated HAPPY BIRTHDAY, as Vince turned 60 years old on Wednesday August 24th.
Dave asked me if it was true what he heard about McMahon running for President. I told him that Vince had a bumper sticker on his limosine at Summer Slam that said "McMahon for President", and that I didn't think so, but since Vince is a mulit-billionaire and VERY influential, and has been known to pull quite a few rabbits out of his hat, I wouldn't put it past him.
Then I plugged my WrestleBeat columns and a couple of the websites that WrestleBeat is on, and that was it for another edition of WrestleShoot.
I'll return to Country 103.1 KKCY again next Thursday at 8:10am or 8:15am with Dave Logasa in the Morning.

This comes from Jesse Hernandez and Empire Wrestling Federation:
Tonga Kid's Wrestling "Samoan Flag Day" City of Carson, CA.
Match 1) Triple Threat Paranoia vs Thunderwolf vs Native Warrior (Match won by Paranoia).
Match 2) R2K & Silver Tiger vs Infernal 7 Chippy Sanchez (Match won by R2K & Silver King).

Match 4) Canadian Goddess Candace La Rae vs Hurricane Havana "with Mr. Nitro 2 Go in corner" (Match won by Hurricane Havana).
Match 5) D-Lo Brown vs Tonga Kid (Match won by Tonga Kid).
Match 6) EWF Cruiserweight Title Match. The K.I.D.D. (Champion) vs Bino Gambino (Challenger) (Match won by Bino Gambino winning Title).
Match 7) Mark Jindrak vs Plague (Match won by Mark Jindrak).
Match 8) Rikishi & Count of California "Black Pearl" vs Bull Buchanan & Seven (Match won by Rikishi and Count of California, with Candace La Rae getting stink Faced by Rikishi due to her interfering in match)
The next Empire Wrestling Federation event will take place at San Francisco's Treasure Island, a private event for the Job Corps on Thursday September 22nd. /2:30 PM start.
EWF will return to Knights of Columbus Hall in Covina, California on Friday September 23rd. / 8:00 PM start. Adults $10.00 under 12 $5.00.
EWF will be for the Boys and Guirls Club at the Delmann Heights Community Center located 2969 Flores street in San Bernardino, California. Free event celebrating the 13th Annual Del-Fest. Games and fun including Car Show from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM wrestling matches starting at 12:00 noon.
For more information on EWF, go to www.empirewrestlingfederation.com .
And as a follow-up to this event, Jesse wanted to share some thoughts on the future of EWF. And here they are:
"The EWF foresees new changes, and all for the better of the company. Every year or so, as it is expected, every growing promotion has to make a few changes within it's staff and it's talent. With EWF running monthly in Covina, and sometimes bi monthly it is important that fresh, new or different talent be seen by our loyal Covina fans. It is our goal to make those changes. Big surprises are in store for everyone here at the EWF. Cincinnati Red is making a big difference in helping with the development of our talent at the shows. I am very happy to have him by my side and I personally feel he is sharing his knowledge of the business in a positive way to help our wrestlers perform with excellence at our events.
At this time I am also working with other promoters including WWE talent scouts to have our EWF performers be given an opportunity to be seen for possible tryouts, as with WWE moving up some of their OVW talent on to RAW and Smackdown there will be some openings for younger wrestlers to take their spots on O.V.W.
It would be an honor for me to see some of my guys move on to bigger promotions, as they would allow our younger talent to step up and get the necessary experience working our venues.
It was so much fun participating on Tonga Kid's Samoan Flag Day wrestling event at City of Carson this last Friday, August 26th 2005. A well put together event that had some great matches and great talent which included D-Lo Brown, Mark Jindrak, Bull Buchanan, The Count of California, Rikishi and others.
The EWF is a wrestling promotion that it's only purpose is to give our students a platform to perform in. The EWF wrestlers are the stars of this promotion. the young wrestlers of today are the superstars of the future. If the there was no EWF-UPW-WPW-APW, there would be no PWG or any other independent wrestling promotion not affiliated with a wrestling school. My respect to every single wrestler that has laced on a pair of wrestling boots, and has had the guts to step in to the squared circle to wrestle.
Best quote I have heard, "Take care of the business and the business will take care of you".
Jesse Hernandez"
I would like to wish the BEST of GOOD FORTUNES to Jesse Hernandez and Empire Wrestling Federation!
Hey Jesse...if you would ever like to have me come down and announce an EWF event, let me know! How about the Treasure Island Show? lol
And now...on to the national news:
I would like to send out a belated HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my old boss, Vince McMahon, who hit the BIG "60" on Wednesday August 24th!
Ryan Clark reports that Kurt Angle recently separated from his wife Karen. He noted that the strain of being on the road took it's toll on their marriage.
Ryan also gives us these stories:
Partial Source: The Torch
Rather than his hip bothering him, Hulk Hogan has said he has four bulging discs in his lower back which has been causing him problems.
Prior to Summerslam, there was talk of doing Hogan vs. HBK II in a cage match at Unforgiven but those plans have since been dropped.
WWE has had preliminary discussions with Caesar's Palace representatives in Las Vegas about hosting another WrestleMania in the future. WWF held WrestleMania VIII in 1993 at the same facility.
On 11/1, WWE will release the first-ever complete WrestleMania DVD collection titled WrestleMania: The Complete Anthology. Beginning with WrestleMania I in 1985 and spanning all the way to the historic 2005 show, this unique box set will thrill sports entertainment fans of all ages. The set contains four individual, 5-disc digi-packs with each containing 5 exciting years of WrestleMania allowing fans the opportunity to witness every slam, every bell and every single WrestleMania moment. Watch Hall of Famers like Hulk Hogan and Andre the Giant to The Rock, Undertaker and Triple H to Mike Tyson and even NFL great Lawrence Taylor. See immortals collide and titles change hands in epic battles that could only happen on sports entertainment’s grandest stage. The box set will include four collectible cards featuring WrestleMania moments and a historical DVD photo gallery. The set will retail at $279.95.
Weeks after all discussions regarding the future of ECW came to a close, The Ottawa Sun reports that the plan is for WWE to bring back the ECW brand after WrestleMania.
"And we're not talking about One Night Stand 2," the article says. "WWE, apparently, has talked about putting the promotion on its own -- keeping the integrity of ECW, small venues and all."
In addition to remaining unconfirmed by other sources, this rumor comes at a very odd time. It had been recently reported that WWE was not planning to utilize the ECW brand for anything other than an annual PPV. While solid, the ECW PPV's buyrate was hardly better than the average brand-only PPV, which likely came as a disillusionment to those hoping it would do record numbers. Both DVDs performed rather well, however.
Chris Benoit did set a new record for a SummerSlam match by beating the record held by Ultimate Warrior which was 30.88 seconds against The Honky Tonk Man when he first won the Intercontinental Title.
Matt Hardy recently answered some tough questions at a Q & A session at WrestleReunion this past weekend. Here are some highlights:
Hardy was asked to work WWE events this weekend but turned them down due to already committing to WrestleReunion which probably didn't make management happy.
Hardy was asked why he returned to WWE to get 'buried'. He noted that it was only part one of a five chapter story.
He noted that there are hard feelings between Edge-Lita-Hardy but that there were only four people who knew the entire story.
He says the two are just trying to make money with each other and when he was asked why he lost to Edge at SummerSlam, he said "Ask me again in six months".
When asked about losing to Rob Conway on Raw, Hardy said that he was "still hurt" from Summerslam.
Hardy also noted that Triple H is powerful backstage and that sometimes he agrees with him and other times he does not.
Ray Gordy, son of the late Terry "Bam Bam" Gordy, has been signed to a WWE deal and will report of Deep South Wrestling.
This comes from WrestlingObserver.com:
Sports Illustrated's web site has an article by Arash Markazi on Bret Hart's six greatest matches at www.sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2005/writers/arash_markazi/08/26/hot.read/1.html
WrestleReunion2 results from Saturday night in Valley Forge, PA: Don & Joe Muraco b Bob & Brad Armstrong. Wendi Richter & George South Jr. & The Patriot (Tom Brandi) b Amy Love & D.C. Drake & Gary Royal. Ivan Koloff b Domenic DeNucci in a Russian chain match. Larry Zbyszko b DDP (DDP used a diamond cutter, then pulled Zbyszko on top of him so Larry won, which meant Larry got five minutes with Bruno). Bruno attacked Larry and started choking him until he was pulled off Larry very quickly. Dusty Rhodes & Blue Meanie & Tom Prichard & D-Lo Brown b Steve Corino & Andrew Test Martin & Evil Clown Matt Osborne & Masked Superstar. Steve Williams (first match since has cancer) b King Kaluha. Tito Santana b Greg Valentine to win IWA title. Dennis Condrey & Bobby Eaton & Stan Lane b Dory & Terry Funk & Mick Foley when Eaton pinned Terry. 3-D (Dudleys, who are no longer allowed to use their name, or anything associated with their WWE character after a nasty legal letter which made a lot of people very unhappy) b Matt Hardy & Rhino. Rhino accidentally gored Hardy through a table for the pin. (thanks to Georgiann Makropolous).
In an incident that happened at WrestleReunion2, Ryan Clark reports this:
There was a heavily-promoted wrestling convention this past weekend featuring the likes of Bret Hart, Bruno Sammartino, Matt Hardy The Dudley Boyz and more wrestling stars both past and present. Tammy Sytch decided to show up at WrestleReunion 2 to set up a table to sell promo photos, autographs, poloroids, etc... She had also appeared at the NWA Legends convention the previous weekend as an un-announced guest along with Missy Hyatt. Unlike at WrestleReunion, Tammy didn't cause any problems, although she seemed bored.
From several accounts from people who were at WrestleReunion, Tammy Sytch was thrown out of the building crying and screaming by security and warned to never come back again. Apparently, she was bothering several of the wrestlers and acting unusual, mostly notably to Bret Hart.
Here is a detailed fan account of what went down...
Tammy was drunk or high. She was on something and kept asking Bret for his number and asking if they can "re-connect" as friends. She kept mentioning their time in the WWF and said she wanted to get "close" again. When Bret asked that she be escorted out, she began crying and causing a scene saying she had the best vagina he ever had and she needed him in her life because she spent all of the Candido Benefit money and was broke. She needed a sugar daddy to take care of her.
Later in the hotel, she was stumbling around the hotel topless and asking for Billy Gunn who wasn't even there. Ask D-Lo Brown, he was there. He can tell you. As a matter of fact, The Masked Maniac should try to get him on the honker for a hotline to confirm this. Tammy has fallen off the wagon and needs help.
And for those keeping score, Tammy's regained a good amount of the weight that she had previously lost earlier this year as she's ballooned quite a bit in the last month or so.
Kane will be signing copies of his fiction book by WWE on Friday from 3-5 p.m. in Laurelwood, near Memphis. The Memphis Commercial Appeal joked about the biography of a fake person, as it is not a Glen Jacobs biography, but a fiction Kane bio, called "The Unauthorized History of Kane," noting if WWE is putting the book out, and he is signing copies, how can it be unauthorized?

Jeff Hardy recently appeared on Between the Ropes radio show and gave his own opinion on the Edge-Lita-Matt Hardy situation.
Jeff said that although his brother likely knew he was always going back to WWE, it was wrong to waste TNA's time and string them along. Numerous TNA officials are understandably unhappy considering they spent time with Hardy and planned out potential angles for his planned debut.
Jeff Hardy also says he couldn't defend Matt's behavior in the last several months and was upset at his brothers comments on Byte This! that he was closer with Lita and Jeff.
Hardy also said he didn't want to get involved in the situation, but was literally forced by his brother to leave nasty voicemails on Edge and Lita's phone.
Jeff also noted that he considered quitting the business after his performance against Abyss at Against All Odds where he botched the big table spot at the end.
The following stories come from Tim Brown:
Former WWF and WCW booker Vince Russo has a new book coming out titled Forgiven. It’s scheduled to hit shelves on September 28, 2005.
Nikita Koloff has begun working on his autobiography. There are no other details on it at this time.
When Jeff Hardy pitched the idea to TNA of wrestling under his other name, he was originally under the impression that they accepted the idea. However, TNA wants Jeff Hardy on TV for his name value, not “Willow the Whisp”.

Sean Waltman, formerly known as the 1-2-3 Kid, X Pac, etc. will be meeting with WWE some time this week. The reason for the meeting however, is unknown. TNA is looking to sign Waltman, but due to his friendship with Vince McMahon and Triple H, not to mention that they have more money, it’s likely that he would sign with WWE if that's what they are interested in.
Sean is a long time friend of Triple H, and has stated on numerous occasions that he feels Triple H and Vince saved his life when they paid for him to go into rehab during his battles with addiction.
PWInsider is reporting that WWE has just signed Vader to a WWE Legends deal.
Ryan Cain brings us the following story:
Source: PWTorch Newsletter
WWE's current plan for Ric Flair is to have him put over as a top babyface. This will lead to a program with Triple H in six weeks time when he returns for the first edition of RAW on USA Network.
Hunter could be brought back sooner if a serious problem cropped up, such as injuries or even bad ratings. However, as of this week there has been no contemplation within WWE to bring him back any sooner than planned.
Daniel Elder reports this:
www.HollymoodEntertainment.com sent word today that the '101 Reasons not to be a Pro Wrestler' DVD is almost sold out of its second printing and there's only another 100 copies of the DVD remaining at the moment. You can order the DVD online at www.hollymoodentertainment.com/order.htm.
A review of the '101 Reasons Not To Be A Pro Wrestler' DVD was recently published and the reviewer had the following to say about the production: "101 Reasons Not To Be A Pro Wrestler is not a sequel to Beyond the Mat, for those wondering, but to be honest, you can't help but draw the thought that it is in an murky way. Beyond the Mat started the in-depth look of wrestling back in 1999, and 101 Reasons continued the saga in a more personal, blunt, candid, and emotional way. 101 Reasons basically did everything that Beyond the Mat didn't do, and did it in a way that will surely give wrestling fans all around the world the answers they always wanted to know about every little obscure incident."
Hollymood Entertainment has also started up a new documentary about the pro wrestling industry that will be much different than '101 Reasons not to be a Pro Wrestler' but Michael Moody isn't yet releasing names of the wrestlers that he has interviewed for the production.
This comes from Bob Ryder:
WWE.com announced the passing of former WWE World Tag Team Champion Ed "Sailor" White, who appeared in the WWF as Moondog King.
White was one of the original WWF Moondogs and won the tag titles with Moondog Rex by defeating the team of Tony Garea and Rick Martel.
Ed "Sailor" White was 56.

Well, that does it for another edition of WrestleBeat. I'll be back next time with more news and notes from the World of Professional Wrestling.
So, until next time, KEEP BOTH FEET ON THE MAT AND YOUR PUNCHES ABOVE THE BELT! Later, Michael
