Michael Porter's WrestleBeat (9-11-05)
Hey there again, Wrestling Fans! And welcome to another edition of WrestleBeat. I've got a lot of news and notes from the World of Professional Wrestling. So, let's get right to business.
Let us ALL remember this 4th ANNIVERSARY of the events of 9-11 in New York and Pennsylvania! GOD BLESS THE U.S.A.!!!
I would also like to wish my current roommate, Georgia Gladen, a HAPPY BIRTHDAY on her turning the "BIG 40" today!
Alright...first up, here is an EARTHQUAKE WATCH update:
I just wanted to let you know that Earthquake John Tenta is in the hospital!
I hadn't heard from 'Quake for awhile, so I decided to call him on Wednesday September 7th. His wife answered the phone and told me that he was in the hospital due to an irregular heartbeat. It's NOT a MAJOR problem, but they wanted to keep him under observation. He's doing FINE and was NOT in any pain with the heart! He should be home soon!
When I hear more, I'll let you know.
Hey...I ALREADY have another update from John himself! Here it is in his own words:
"I'm out. I went into a consultation with the radiologist. Good news is he can give me radiation. bad news was he heard an irregular heart beat, and sent me to emergency. Got stuck there 2 days. Had 2 ekg's, an ultra-sound, and a stress test. Good news is they all came back normal. They just gave me a new medicine and is already helping the heartbeat. Thanks, as usual, for all your concerns, and well wishes. Thanks, Michael for checking on me. I'm sure we'll talk this weekend.
'Quake"
(SPECIAL UPDATE):
I just (Saturday Sept.10th) got off of the phone with Earthquake John Tenta from his home about 30 miles outside of Houston, Texas!
He tells me that he's doing "not too bad"...BETTER in the last month than he had been feeling in recent past!
John told me that on the VERY day of his oldest Son's recent Wedding, he received a call from one of his physicians that they had discovered another tumor in the SAME left hip area where he had his original Cancer surgery. So, his day of his son's wedding was extremely bitter-sweet, to say the least.
'Quake started a new session of Chemotherapy and Radiation Treatments for this new developement. His Radiologist seems to be pretty certain that this new tumor should respond to the radiation treatments!
John adds that he has been OFF of ALL Chemo for a month, and he IS feeling better! He had been experiencing a lot of tiredness, weakness, and shortness of breath. But, as I said...he IS feeling BETTER! I'm CERTAIN that we are ALL happy to here that you're feeling better, John!
'Quake and I also discussed "the old days", our times with the WWF, some of our friends in the company, etc. Of course, his closest and best friend was Fred Ottman (Typhoon...aka, Tugboat), his Tag Team partner.
John also told me how proud he was of his 12 year old son, Johnny who made the "A-Team" football squad! Johnny at age 12, already stands 5' 7" and weighs 190 lbs.! So...we KNOW where he gets his SIZE from!
With that, I let 'Quake return to watching his Saturday College Football games! He informed me that he was switching back and forth between THREE different games. He LOVES his football! When I asked him if he preferred Collage or NFL football, he responted that while he DOES watch the NFL, he is a HUGE College follower.
It was a GREAT conversation with one of the NICEST guys I've ever known or worked with! I call him "a Gentle Giant"! But, more importantly, I call him "FRIEND"!
I KNOW that you will join me in CONTINUING to send out your WELL-WISHES and your PRAYERS for my GOOD Friend, Earthquake John Tenta!
Next up...I went for my appointment with Cardiologist Dr. Nicholas Capos in Yuba City, CA. on Tuesday Sept. 6th. Following the stress test, the time on the treadmill...etc., Dr. Capos informed me that although I DO have a blockage in the left side of my heart, it is nothing MAJOR at this time! He informed me that, while he wants to see me again, for precautionary reasons, I CAN continue my NORMAL activities...my work, my work-outs, my bicycle riding, and taking certain medications! So...I am quite RELIEVED and PLEASED with the results and would like to THANK Dr. Capos, Frank Martinez P.A., The Peach Tree Clinic in Linda, CA. AND ALL of you who have sent me the NUMEROUS e-mails and snail-mails, as well as the postings and responses on the various Message Boards and Websites who carry WrestleBeat! THANK YOU and GOD BLESS YOU ALL, from this humble country boy!

Well...it was back to Country 103.1 KKCY in the Marysville/Yuba City area on Thursday morning for another edition of Michael Porter's WrestleShoot.I joined the Dave Logasa in the Morning show with Dave and Briggs Moor at shortly after 8:10am with my WrestleShoot Report.
I began with the GREAT news for WWE Superstar and New Orleans, Louisiana native, John Heidenreich, who finally spoke to his wife and kids over the weekend. They're now staying with his mother in Picayune, Mississippi, after the house they were staying at in Slidell, Louisiana, was ruined by Hurricane Katrina.
His father Ronald is recovering in Harahan, Louisiana. Both of his father’s homes withstood the hurricane, although he is without power and low on essentials like food and water. Heidenreich has yet to talk to his dad, but other friends have relayed promising updates about his health and the condition of his house.
Then, I reported about the WWE “Night of Champions” which is scheduled for Monday Night RAW’s homecoming to the USA Network on Oct. 3.
Many former WWE Champions will be making their return to RAW on Oct. 3, including Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Mick Foley and Triple H. Even Mr. McMahon himself will make an appearance.
All of this is in addition to current WWE Champion John Cena and former WWE Champions Shawn Michaels, Big Show, Kurt Angle and Ric Flair being a part of the historic, star-studded evening.
I then went on to discuss the recent HUGE WrestleReunion 2 convention which was held in Valley Forge, PA. and some of the LEGENDS from the past, present and future who appeared or wrestled there, including The Magnificant Don Muraco and his son, Joe, who def. Bob and Brad armstrong in a Fathers and Sons Match.
Also at WrestleReunion were former WWF Women's Champion Wendi Richter, The Patriot, Ivan Koloff, Nikolai Volkoff (who sang the Russian National Anthem), Domenic DeNucci, The Fantastics (Tommy Rogers & Bobby Fulton), Bret "Hitman" Hart, who did an in-ring interview with Bill Apter, Larry Zbyszko, Bruno Sammartino, Diamond Dallas Page, The American Dream Dusty Rhodes, Dr. Tom Pritchard, Andrew "Test" Martin, Doink the Clown, and Dr. Death Steve Williams (who wrestled his FIRST match since having his larynx removed due to Throat Cancer). Dr. Death, who speaks with an electronic voice box, told the crowd "I told you I would make my comeback!" and also said that "with faith and heart, you can accomplish ANYTHING!" VERY EMOTIONAL and INSPIRATIONAL from reports that I've heard!
In a "side-note", Dr. Death Steve Williams defeated King Kaluah in their match!
Other Superstars appearing at WrestleReunion included Tito Santana, Greg "the Hammer" Valentine, The Mouth of the South Jimmy Hart, Dory Jr. and Terry Funk, Mick Foley, Bobby "the Brain" Heenan, Stan "the Lariot" Hanson, Nick Bockwinkle, and MANY more Legends from the past, present and future!
During the reporting of the "NAMES", Dave Logasa said that these were names that he recalled from his past.
And so, that was it for this edition of my WrestleShoot Report on the Dave Logasa in the Morning show. I'll return again next Thursday at about 8:10am or 8:15am with another WrestleShoot Report.
Dave Logasa in the Morning can be heard Monday thru Friday from 5:00am to 9:00am on Country 103.1 KKCY.
For more on Country 103.1 KKCY, go to www.kkcy.com .

And now...on to the national news:
Ryan Clark reports this GOOD news on the John Heidenreich family situation in New Orleans:
From WWE.com:
New Orleans native John Heidenreich finally spoke to his wife and kids over the weekend.
Heidenreich, who had his entire hometown leveled and most of his immediate family displaced by Hurricane Katrina last week, is heading home Wednesday to personally assess the damage.
“I’m anxious,” Heidenreich told WWE.com Tuesday. “I want to see what all of this is going to look like up close and not on television.”
Heidenreich, who lives in Meterie, Louisiana, will land at the Mobile, Alabama, airport Wednesday morning, where his wife will pick him up and drive him into New Orleans.
“I’m going to bring down as much food and water and supplies as I can for my dad and my family,” Heidenreich said. “I have to see what’s going on and check out my own house. I’m going to try and recover as much as I can.”
Heidenreich will collect as many valuables as he can, including his cat Caramella, and drive back to Louisville, where he’s temporarily staying at a hotel.
Louisville, or possibly Atlanta, could soon become the full-time home for Heidenreich and his family. With New Orleans and its surrounding areas so damaged by the hurricane, Heidenreich has a hard time envisioning a healthy future in the city.
“I’m probably going to move to one of those cities,” Heidenreich said. “I need some time to find a place, but I’m probably going to move.”
Ryan Clark also reports the following:
Jackie Gayda and Gail Kim have both signed with TNA. There are also reports that Jackie's fiance, Charlie Haas may also be close to signing with the company.
From WWE.com:
A “Night of Champions” is scheduled for Monday Night RAW’s homecoming to the USA Network on Oct.
RAW flourished during its seven-year run on USA network, establishing cable rating records as WWE fans flocked to the television each and every Monday night. And it’s happening all over again, so don’t miss RAW on Oct. 3 for this televised homecoming.
It is ALSO now reported on WWE.com that the October 3rd return to the USA Network, "A Night of Champions" will begin at 8:00pm and air for THREE hours!
This comes from David Agostino on WWE.com. It was dated August 31, 2005:
Ted DiBiase is going home Thursday. And for that, he feels blessed.
DiBiase, who lives in Clinton, Mississippi with his wife and three sons, was in Tampa, Florida, when Hurricane Katrina rocked much of the Gulf Coast Monday. DiBiase, a WWE legend who now works with the company, had some anxious moments as he watched the horrible storm unfold on television while he tried to reach his family via phone.
“That was the most difficult time,” DiBiase said. “Those hours, not knowing exactly when it’s coming and then not being able to reach anyone because all the phone lines are jammed.”
Fortunately, the area of Mississippi where DiBiase lives avoided the brunt of Katrina.
“We got really lucky,” DiBiase said. “We went virtually unscathed. Just a couple of trees uprooted, limbs in the yard, things like that.”
Still, DiBiase, who wrestled frequently in the New Orleans area when he was younger and still has many friends in the city, has been shaken by the damage that he’s seen so far. In fact, Hattiesburg, Mississippi, a town just 80 miles from DiBiase’s home, was hit extremely hard by the storm.
“I started my wrestling career in the mid-south,” DiBiase said. “I’m very familiar with the area and it’s just a shock to watch it on television and realize the devastation that took place.”
DiBiase, who is also a minister, has a close friend who pastors a large church in New Orleans. DiBiase went as far as to offer his home to his friend, who eventually found shelter elsewhere.
“He called me the other day and he thinks they lost everything,” DiBiase said. “To have a storm that enormous so close to my home, I feel very fortunate.”
DiBiase plans to organize some fund-raising efforts once he returns home in connection with his local church.
“My heart goes out to those people,’ DiBiase said. “I’m going to get the word out through my ministry to raise money or supply food and clothing for the victims. Anything I can do to help.”
Here in Northern California and Nevada, WWE-TV will be returning in October!

On Tuesday Oct. 18th, SMACKDOWN will tape at Lawler Events Center in Reno, NV. at 7:30pm.

With regards to the way in which Edge, Matt Hardy and Lita have been appearing to get along behind the scenes, one source is quoted saying, "They are civil to each other and non-combative".
After a recent examination, Kane is set to be cleared to return next month. Now that Matt Hardy is back in the picture, the timing of his optional knee surgery happened to work out quite well. Kane would only have confused matters amidst the Matt Hary/Lita/Edge drama.
While WWE remains very interested in acquiring Sean "X-Pac" Waltman, there is reportedly little interest in signing Kevin Nash. PWTorch.com, which recently raised the possibility of WWE taking interest in Nash, reports that the only contact between the two parties was an informal phone call between Vince McMahon and Nash last month.
WWE's interest in X-Pac stems from his strong match with Jerry Lynn and the fact that he broke up with Joanie "Chyna" Laurer.
Speaking of Chyna...former WWE Diva, Chyna (Joanie Laurer), will be starring in a movie called "Illegal Aliens." In the film, which is slated for a 2006 release, Laurer will portray a villain who is attempting to take over the world.
The Undertaker is bringing Christian with him to the Staples Center on Saturday night for the Manny Pacquiao vs. Hector Velezguez fight.
In a recent interview, Hulk Hogan said he is interesting in returning to WWE to work against John Cena and Steve Austin.
Trinity, who basically quit TNA after Slammiversary, has been hopeful in getting a phone call from WWE.
This report comes from Bob Ryder:
WWE has reportedly removed Rudy Fischamann from the writing team. The reason we were given is that he was considered to be "too much of a mark for talking to the wrestlers".
Tim Brown reports the following regarding the Matt Hardy-Lita-Edge situation:
Source: PWTorch Newsletter
Matt Hardy and Lita have been seen together socially lately, and WWE sources say that they are clearly getting along now. Since Hardy found out about Lita’s relationship with Edge in the beginning, he had been in on-again/off-again contact with her.
As previously reported, Hardy was at several points extremely close to signing with TNA. One factor that some believe helped him decide, was the opportunity to reconcile with Lita and travel with her again. Despite this year’s emotional roller coaster ride they had been on, there was a lot of good history between them that Hardy had not given up on.
Even if his WWE run does go poorly, he may still come out of it with no regrets if he can end up in a healthy relationship again.
Speaking of his WWE run going poorly, Hardy told fans at the WrestleReunion 2 convention that they shouldn’t be concerned about his first few weeks in WWE. He said he was confident that in the long run, it would work out well.
Ryan Cain gives us the following:

As of late Shawn Michaels has been becoming a regular at WWE production meetings. HBK recently spoke his mind on the creative team's apparent failure, in his opinion, to have anything better for him than Chris Masters after his loss to Hogan at SummerSlam. However, despite his opinion on the matter, Michaels has handled the situation professionaly in a manner comparable to that of his handling of the Hogan SummerSlam fued.
HBK isn't the only veteran wrestler to regularly attend WWE production meetings. Other wrestlers regularly in attendance are Triple H (obviously) and The Undertaker.
From "The Ross Report" on WWE.com, J.R. notes that Jake "the Snake" Roberts’ father, Grizzly Smith, was missing in New Orleans for several days following Hurricane Katrina, but, thankfully, he was found alive.
This comes from WrestlingObserver.com:
Harry Smith (son of the late British Bulldog Davey Boy Smith) debuts in California for Kirk White's Big Time Wrestling with shows on 9/30 in Newark, CA against Frankie Kazarian and 10/1 in Modesto against Jason Styles (thanks to Dwayne Soper)
For anyone wishing to send get well cards to Count Billy Varga, a major 50s star who later did a lot of movies, he's in poor health right now and in hospice care, at Brighton Gardens of Northridge, 17650 West Devonshire St., Northridge, CA 91325.
Well, that does it for another edition of WrestleBeat. I'll be back next time with more news and notes from the World of Professional Wrestling.
So, until next time, KEEP BOTH FEET ON THE MAT AND YOUR PUNCHES ABOVE THE BELT! Later, Michae
