Michael Porter's WrestleBeat (9-16-05)
Hey there again, Wrestling Fans! And welcome to another edition of WrestleBeat. I've got a lot of news and notes from the World of Professional Wrestling. So, let's get right to business.
First up...I returned to the radio airwaves once again on Country 103.1 KKCY in the Marysville/Yuba City, CA. areas on the dave Logasa in the Morning show.
This week, I discussed the "Night of Champions" on Monday Night RAW's return to the USA Network on Monday Oct. 3rd. USA has given WWE an ADDITIONAL hour to work with, with RAW beginning at 8:00pm rather than the usual 9:00pm start. So, RAW will be aired LIVE for over THREE HOURS on Oct.3rd!
Also, in addition to the previously announced star-studded line-up of Hulk Hogan, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Mick Foley, the return of Triple H AND Vince McMahon, WWE Champion John Cena, Shawn Michaels, The Big Show, Kurt Angle, and Ric Flair, it has been announced that WWF has invited The Rock to make a SPECIAL appearance.
This should bring WWE and the USA Network HUGE ratings on Oct. 3th, despite going up against the NFL Monday Night Football!
I also discussed that the United Wrestling Alliance (UWA) and Owner, Rob Wilds is bringing in former WWE Woman's Champion and Diva, IVORY for a meet and greet, autograph signing, and photo session, to Sacramento, CA. at TOY ALLEY (also called TOY FUSION) 1908 El Camino Ave. on Sunday Oct. 2nd, and invited all of the Country 103.1 listeners to join us on that day!
For more info, go to www.UnitedWrestlingAlliance.com or give TOY ALLEY/FUSION a call at (916) 565-2546.
Next up, I discussed the Matt Hardy-Edge-Lita ongoing situation, and just how it has taken quite a toll on Amy (Lita), and on how clearly it has become increasingly uncomfortable, as in "real life" Matt and Lita have been seen in public together on several ocassions, in an APPARENT attempt to re-kindle their past relationship!
I closed with information on Sean Waltman's (X-Pac) no-show at the TNA PPV last Sunday. Sean had apparently spoken with TNA officials and told them that he was running late but would be there in time for his match, but NEVER made it. Also, even friends and relatives state that THEY haven't seen NOR heard from him since early Sunday. MYSTERIOUS and INTERESTING!
I will return next Thursday at 8:10am or 8:15am for another edition of Michael Porter's WrestleShoot with Dave Logasa in the Morning...with Briggs Moor on Country 103.1 KKCY Marysville/Yuba City.
I received this from the Administrator at AdrenalineUnleashed.com:
"The newest surge in sports entertainment is slamming into the Southland, Friday, September 30 at the Industry Hills Expo Center GRAND ARENA. I received this from my old friend, Jesse Hernandez:
"WWE's Rob Van Dam will Join up with The American Red Cross in an effort to help raise money for the Hurricane Katrina Victims. RVD will donate his time to meet, greet, sign autographs and pictures for all who come out and support the Hurricane Katrina victims through the American Red Cross, with your donations.

The following is from WCWA Offlical Brian Elliot in regards to this Saturday's (Sept.17th) WCWA event at WCWA Arena 2312 Monument Blvd. (Next to the Dome Theatre) in Pleasant Hill, CA.
"I just got off the phone with Commissioner Storm and he has announced some more matches for the 17th.
Some wrestlers have not yet confirmed, but this is what we have so far on the drawing board:
Tag Team Championship Match: Technical Terror (Pierceton Steel & Rik Luxury) vs. Chance Calloway & D.J. Rizz 2 out of 3 falls for the titles
Alexis Smirnoff Jr. vs. Giant Paul Isadora
After a loss in the strap match at the last show, Smirnoff demanded a match with the biggest challenge available. Storm shrugged his shoulders, looked to the sky and found a "very large challenge" staring back and signed him to face the mad Russian.
Ring of Fire Title Match: Champion Jason Vega vs. El Flaco Loco.
Bonzai Bruce Bukaki is still gunning for Flaco, but he has a previously contracted booking in Oregon this Saturday and cannot appear. Bukaki's booking becomes good fortune for Flaco as he gets a shot at the gold, based on his devious performance at the last show.
Hijo de Chupacabra vs. Virgil Kensington Belmont
These two high-flying might-mites should get the WCWA Arena rockin'.
Former WCWA Champion Eric West violated the terms of his suspension by attacking Rage at the conclusion of the last show.
Since Commissioner Storm is not particularly fond of suspending wrestlers (that was MY idea), he has devised a punishment match for West. Storm has ordered West to wrestle a handicap match against Rage and Risa de Muerte.
Considering the simmering bad blood in the Devil Mountain camp between those two, this should be interesting on a bunch of levels...
The Bad Apples will also be on hand, along with a gang of other WCWA superstars.
Helfyre has still not been cleared to wrestle, but the current WCWA Champion vows to be there, ready for action REGARDLESS. If he is cleared to wrestle, a suitable opponent will be on-hand.
And I'm also being told that a WCWA superstar will be making his/her triumphant return after an extended absence.
There should be plenty of fireworks this Saturday night, as the WCWA says goodbye to this sizzling summer and Hello! to a furious fall.
Hope to see all of you at the matches this weekend!!!

And now...just a reminder that The United Wrestling Alliance (UWA) and Owner Rob Wilds have announced that the UWA will be bringing former WWE Woman's Champion and Diva, IVORY to Sacramento for a SPECIAL Meet and Greet, Autograph Signing and Photo Session!
IVORY will be appearing at TOY ALLEY (also called TOY FUSION), located at 1908 El Camino Ave. in Sacramento, CA. on Sunday afternoon October the 2nd from 12:00 NOON to 2:00PM.
So, come on out and spend some time with IVORY and the UWA, and get an autograph, an autographed photo, or even have your picture taken with the lovely IVORY...ALL brought to you by the UWA and TOY ALLEY/FUSION!
I KNOW that I'm going to be there! So...come one...come all to TOY ALLEY/FUSION 1908 El Camino Ave. in Sacramento on Sunday October the 2nd from 12:00 NOON to 2:00PM!
For more information, go to www.UnitedWrestlingAlliance.com , or give TOY ALLEY/FUSION a call at (916) 565-2546.
(SPECIAL UPDATE ON LISA MORETTI...AKA, IVORY)
According to WrestlinObserver.com "Ivory is flying to the Gulf Coast and will be there all week, bringing supplies. Ivory has also been told she can no longer use her name and will be going by her real name, Lisa Moretti, from this point forward."
But...NOT to worry..."the Wrestler formerly known as IVORY", Lisa Moretti is STILL going to appear at TOY ALLEY/FUSION on Sunday Oct. 2nd!
And now...on to the national news:
The following VERY sad report comes from Joey Styles:
"FORMER PRO WRESTLER AND BROTHER OF JAKE "THE SNAKE" ROBERTS, SAM HOUSTON SENTENCED TO TEN YEARS IN PRISON."
The Mid-Atlantic Legends wrestling forum has this news from Nickla Roberts (Baby Doll) regarding Sam Houston:
"From Nickla Roberts:
Thought I would let all of you know what happened last month to my ex-husband and the father of my two girls...
As most of you know, Sam has had an ongoing battle with drug and alcohol abuse. It is the reason why we got divorced in 1994. During the last 10 years he has had an average of 2 DUI arrests per year. I know of 4 vehicles that he totalled (every accident he walked away from). There were other vehicles but I do not have all the info...
Everytime he was arrested, his dad (Grizzly Smith) would pay the fine, or use his influence and leverage with the judge or court officers to get his son out with little or no consequences. know in his heart that Griz thought he was doing the right thing for his son but it was the all wrong. After all this time it finally caught up with him. Mother's Against Drunk Driving got ahold of Sam's records, including everytime he had been in trouble whether it was in the Carolina's, Texas or Louisiana. They were going to the newspapaer and expose Sam's arrest history and how nothing had been done time and time again. They were ready to supply the names of the judges, lawyers, probation officers etc...that had let Sam go on with no consequences for driving while drunk, high or both.
It was just a matter of time before Sam would kill someone. Thanks to the Lord that tragedy never happened. Sam had a court date the first week of August for a drunk driving arrest that had occured earlier this year outside New Orleans. Griz took him to the court but Sam could not stand without weaving and he smelled like he had been drinking a lot. The deputies arrested him on the spot and told him they were not going to waste the judges' time. Griz spent the rest of the day at the courthouse begging them to let Sam go.
This time it did not work. Sam had another court appearance two weeks later. This judge had been given the information MADD had collected on Sam and his wreckless behavior. The judge sentenced him to 10 years. My Dad was an alcoholic. The last 35 years of his life he stayed sober through the AA program. Dad helped a lot of other alcoholics and substance abusers stay sober by following the 12 steps. My Dad said that Sam would end up in jail, institutionalized or dead if he kept drinking.
Dad was right.
My heart goes out to Sam... 10 years is a very long time.
Griz should have made his son face the courts and the consequences of the laws he had broken at the time they had occured. I cannot imagine how he feels with a 10 year sentence. We have not seen Sam since the day after Terry Funk's retirement show in Amarillo. Jake wrestled on the card and Griz, Jake and Sam drove to Lubbock to see Mikka and Mikala play soccer. It was about 9 or 10 years ago.
Please keep Sam in your thoughts and prayers..
Nickla"
Tim Brown reports on MORE legal problems for a Pro Wrestler:
Source: Wrestling Observer Newsletter
It looks like Sandman may be done wrestling in Canada for the time being. He was scheduled to work a show in Montreal recently, and was stopped at customs at the airport. He arrived at 11:30 a.m. that morning, and then called the promotion he was working for to tell them he was stuck in customs.
An hour later, he called back and said he was in real trouble and needed a lawyer. It turns out that he was denied entry into Canada due to a breaking and entering charge from 1983. A lawyer was sent, and argued that Sandman shouldn’t be kept from entering Canada due to a 22-year-old charge.
After the lawyer said that, they then stated that Sandman was also leaving the country to work illegally in Canada. They searched his bags and found his wrestling gear, and t-shirts that he was going to be selling at the show.
He was put on a plane back to Philadelphia after the situation went on for almost 6 hours.
Wrestle Reunion from last night (Saturday) in Davie, FL before an estimated 550:
David Isley b Hack Myers.
Sumie Sakai b Amy Love.
Bugsy McGraw b Warlord.
Mike Graham b Kevin Sullivan in a battle of Florida tag team champions during the Nixon administration.
The Blue Meanie b Kamala.
Jake "the Snake" Roberts b Antonio Banks.
Greg "the Hammer" Valentine b Tito Santana to win the IWA title when "The Mouth of the South" Jimmy Hart threw in Brass Knuckles.
Tully Blanchard (with J.J. Dillon) b Outlaw Ron Bass.
Team 3-D (formerly The Dudleys) b Dennis Condrey & Bobby Eaton.
Dusty Rhodes NC Terry Funk with Mick Foley as ref. Funk turned heel on Foley saying he was pissed because it was the first time he was wrestling where he was getting paid less than the referee.
Joey Styles was also there. Crowd was appreciative and didn't turn on a lot of guys who looked like they had no business being out there (thanks to Paul Kacprzak).
Tim Brown reports that Kane will be out of action until around October due to knee surgery.
Ryan Clarke reports the following on Sean Waltman (X-Pac):
As noted yesterday, Sean Waltman no-showed the TNA PPV last night. We're told that TNA officials had talked to him on the phone during the afternoon and he said he was running late and would be there in time for his match.
PWTorch.com reports that he went to his grandmothers house and took a shower and grabbed his in-ring gear. He left for the 90 minute drive to Orlando at about 6EST.
One source believes he made it to the arena but way too late for his match.
None of his family or friends have heard from him since yesterday afternoon.
As of last word, TNA still had not heard from Sean Waltman. As noted, he left his grandmothers house around 6EST and headed for the TNA arena on Sunday night. The company is said to be furious with his no-show especially since he was working for the winning team in the Chris Candido Memorial Tournament on the PPV.
And now...here is a follow-up on the Sean Waltman situation with TNA and other TNA news.
Source: Pro Wrestling Torch Newsletter
A personal friend of Sean Waltman recently commented on his current situation with TNA, adding, "It's a shame he blew his TNA deal because after the last two shows, it really looked like he was shaping up and regaining the confidence of management." Another friend of Waltman's also added, "Waltman's f*****. He promised he wouldn't be late with the Spike TV people there".
Numerous Spike TV executives were backstage at the TNA Unbreakable PPV on Sunday and many sat in the front row for the entire show on the hard camera side. They all seemed to be enjoying themselves and were observering crowd reactions very closely. According to reports, they stayed out of everyone's way backstage and didn't interfere in any decisions or operations. TNA President Dixie Carter and top executive Frank Dickerson seemed very pleased with the event as well. One of the Spike TV officials will also be taking part in production duties for the company on a regular basis along with David Sahadi, Keith Mitchell and Kevin Sullivan.
TNA management requested that Kevin Nash attend the Unbreakable PPV this past Sunday so that he could be introduced to Spike TV executives. Nash was said to have finished at the top of a focus group study Spike did to rate the recognition factor of certain wrestlers, some who are on the current roster and others that aren't. Nash only stayed backstage for a few hours and left before the show concluded to make a flight to California for some film commitments. He is scheduled to attend the September 27th TV tapings for Spike TV and has agreed to work the Bound for Glory PPV on October 23rd even though he hasn't signed a long-term contract.
Source: Pro Wrestling Torch Newsletter
TNA officially confirmed that Jushin "Thunder" Liger would be working the October 23rd Bound for Glory PPV event this past week. The company has yet to name an opponent for Liger at this time.
Gail Kim will be joining Traci Brooks as the only other regular female wrestler on TNA's current roster. TNA may have already contacted several former WWE women's wrestlers such as Jazz, Nidia and Jackie Gayda to help establish a new division.
As reported over the weekend, many former WWE stars were backstage at TNA's Unbreakable PPV this past Sunday. Among those backstage were the former Dudley's, Kevin "Mordecai" Fertig, Kenzo Suzuki & wife Hiroko, Andrew "Test" Martin and Shannon Moore.
Both Mark "Bubba Ray Dudley" Lamonica and Devon "D'Von Dudley" Hughes were backstage at the TNA Unbreakable PPV and were telling people that they have yet to sign a contract with the company yet, but expected to in time for the September 27th TV tapings for TNA's debut on Spike TV. They were also overheard talking about why they felt Matt Hardy made a huge mistake in re-signing with WWE this year and adding that he would have "had it made" if he signed with TNA instead.
Jerry Lynn was backstage at the TNA PPV working in his usual role as an agent. Any future plans for his in-ring return have been derailed in TNA at the moment due to Sean Waltman no-showing the PPV and most likely not being welcome back.
Confirming the rumors, PWTorch.com reports that WWE did contact The Rock about appearing on the "Night Of Champions," but the wrestler-turned-actor declined to appear. No one knows whether that was due to a prior commitment or if he simply did not want to work the show. It is worth reporting that internal WWE documents list Rock as part of its talent pool, so many likely assumed he would be available for the big episode of RAW.
Ryan Cain reports the following stories:
Source: PWTorch Newsletter
WWE has apparently been trying to get hold of Scott Hall concerning the production of a nostalgic Razor Ramon doll.
Matt Hardy and Edge have been keeping their distance backstage. The only time they will talk to each other is when they need to discuss a match or segment.
The ongoing drama is said to be taking quite a toll on Lita, who has been travelling alone, and is clearly very uncomfortable with the whole thing.
And finally, Ryan Clark has this from WWE.com , a "shoot" (worked shoot?) from Matt Hardy:
"I will definitely never forget 2005. At the beginning of the year, I was busting my ass rehabbing from a totally reconstructed left knee - but I also had a chance to step away from the madness of the schedule and lifestyle I had lived for seven years with WWE. I realized how great of a life I had; I was living my dream wrestling for WWE. I had an incredible relationship with an amazing girl named Amy Dumas, and I was surrounded by friends who were good people and cared about me. I couldn't wait to return to a WWE ring and take my career to the next level. I couldn't wait to marry Amy and have children and plan for our long-term future. I couldn't wait to return to the road and be around friends like Shane Helms, Shannon Moore, Chris Jericho, Christian, Edge, and Joey Mercury.
But none of that happened.
On February 22, 2005, I learned that Amy and Edge (Adam Copeland) were involved in an intense affair behind my back. My life turned upside down, and then I was released from WWE - something I had worked my entire life for. I truly felt like I had lost everything. Most people would have quit right then or crawled into a corner and died. Not me. Matt Hardy will not die.
People started rallying behind me because I didn't go quiet when the situation went down. I fought the power. Chants of "We Want Matt" and "You Screwed Matt" echoed whenever Edge or Lita performed. I got tens of thousands of e-mails from people who had been in a situation similar to mine. I felt it was my obligation to be strong and represent for all of those who had been betrayed by their mate, best friend, and/or company.
Then, there was an opportunity for me to return to WWE. I listened to my fans, thought about my long-term future, and thought about what people wanted to see from Matt Hardy. My MFers had caused enough of a stink with their chanting, protesting, and rallying that I owed it to them and myself to return to WWE. They wanted me to go back and get revenge on Edge and Lita - make them pay for their sins against me.
On July 11, I did exactly that. When I showed up at the Meadowlands in E. Rutherford, N.J., and attacked that scumbag Adam Copeland, I knew in my heart that I had made the right decision. I also knew it was going to be a tough and bumpy road, but in the end I would prevail. I was going up against Edge, who had become one of the top guys in WWE, and I would be returning to work for a company that had already once fired me. Things were going to be tough.
Eventually, Vince McMahon officially rehired me, and I shook his hand and appreciated the second chance. I was happy to have been given my dream back, especially considering the circumstances in which it was taken away. I can't describe how emotionally and mentally hard it was going into SummerSlam facing someone I absolutely despised in a wrestling match - especially knowing that Amy Dumas would be in his corner on the outside. As you all know, the SummerSlam match was stopped due to my excessive bleeding and concern for my well-being.
I never quit, and I would live to fight another day. Week in and week out, I have been physically, mentally and emotionally pushed to my limits in this ordeal with Adam Copeland. The street fight we had in Tampa, Fla., was brutal, and the Side Effect that I gave Edge off the stage seriously damaged both of us. I couldn't walk for two days after that.
Every time I was beat up and in no condition to wrestle, I was forced into matches that would further “damage” me. The supposed "wrestling experts" claim that WWE is attempting to sabotage me - to kill off the heart and soul of Matt Hardy.
News flash: It isn't going to happen.
No one can break my spirit. Not Adam Copeland, not Amy Dumas, not WWE
not the "wrestling experts" that don't get it, not the negative fans; it won't happen. If my spirit wasn't broken this summer after everything that went down, it won't be broken.
I cannot thank the loyal people who have stood by me in this ordeal enough, and you know who you are. This Sunday at Unforgiven, it is Matt Hardy's time to reward all the people who have believed in me since Day One by putting in the performance of a lifetime. It is also time for me to prove all the non-believers wrong. I want to be an example and inspiration of how you can overcome anything if you work hard enough and truly believe.
I've already regained my professional life back, and it feels better than ever. In Oklahoma City - when I take care of Edge once and for all - I put the exclamation point on being back in WWE and better than ever. I have also always believed that I would come out of this terrible scenario with a better personal life, and that's slowly but surely happening.
Thank you all so much for supporting and believing in me, I always do my best to never let anyone down. This Sunday, everyone will see why "I Will Not Die" is not just a catch phrase, it's a way of life for me.
Matt Hardy"

Matt Hardy"
