Michael Porter's WrestleBeat (10-20-05)
Hey there again, Wrestling Fans! And welcome to another edition of WrestleBeat. I've got a lot of news and notes from the World of Professional Wrestling. So, let's get right to business.
First up...I returned to Country 103.1 KKCY Marysville/Yuba City, CA. this (Thursday) morning on the Dave Logasa in the Morning show with my WrestleShoot Report.
This week, I discussed in detail the professional and health update of Good Ol' J.R. Jim Ross, INCLUDING the colon surgery he had on Tuesday, in which Doctors removed part of his intestine, due to a ruptured colon, along with a statement from J.R.'s wife, Jan (see below for complete details).
I also discussed the NEW Division in the WWE SMACKDOWN brand...The Juniors. At this week's SMACKDOWN Tapings (which will air on UPN this Friday in Reno, Nevada, some of the Juniors made their debut, including Mexican Minis, Mascarita Sagrada, Braza de Plata, and Super Porky. And, in appearance, apparently Pierroth, along with the Heart Throb's "Pocket Rocket" also better known as my old buddy, Short Sleeve Sampson.
I also mentioned Taboo Tuesday, in which Stone Cold Steve Austin will face The Coach, Jonathon Coachman. And if Austin in victorious, J.R. will get his job back. However, if The Coach wins, Austin will ALSO be fired!
I finished with Mick Foley wrestling Carlito at Taboo Tuesday. In this one the fans are going to be able to vote for which personna Mick will be...Mankind, Dude Love, or my choice, Cactus Jack.
And that was it for this week's WrestleShoot Report. I'll return next week with another edition of Michael Porter's WrestleShoot on Country 103.1 KKCY.

And now...on to the national news:
Ryan Clark reports this update on Jim Ross:
From WWE.com:
On Thursday Oct.13th, Jim Ross underwent a medical procedure to his colon in hopes of alleviating pain he has been enduring for several weeks.
“They found something massive in my intestines,” said J.R. in a phone conversation with WWE.com. “They don’t know what it is, but they will have to cut out part of my intestines.”
A brief article has been added regarding the current health status of Jim Ross after going through colon surgery yesterday. Jim Ross is said to be “hanging tough” after colon surgery yesterday, according to J.R.’s wife, Jan. “Yesterday and today have been a little tough,” said Jan Ross. “But we are very happy with how the surgery went. He is in great hands and is being taken care of.”
Ryan Clarke also reports these following stories:
In an unprecedented collaboration, network executive Palmer Canon and SmackDown General Manager Theodore Long announced today the introduction of a new WWE wrestling division exclusive to Friday Night SmackDown: The Juniors.
The Juniors Division will be comprised of world-class athletes at or below 5 feet tall. “Midgets, dwarves, the little people; they’re all welcome,” said Long. “We don’t discriminate against anybody on my show, as long as they can bring it.”
“The network believes there’s big ratings and big excitement in the new Juniors Division," Canon added. "I think fans will be shocked at what these tiny, but very talented, competitors can add to the already incredibly gifted roster here on Friday Night SmackDown.”
In fact...according to Mike King, who was at the SMACKDOWN Tapings at the Lawler Event Center in Reno, Nevada, Palmer Cannon was telling Teddy Long about his "NTI" (New Talent Initiative), which he credited as the reason Matt Hardy was now on SD, and introduced Long to the new division on SmackDown!: The Juniors! Out comes Mascarita Sagrada, two others (not sure, but another masked mini who looked like Pierroth in red, white, and blue, and possibly the Heart Throbs' "Pocket Rocket", better known as Short Sleeve Sampson), as well as one more slightly larger luchadore: BRAZO DE PLATA! Super Porky himself! And he was called just that by Palmer! Sagrada and I think the other two minis were also named. Porky was of course eating what looked like a ham. FUNNY segment for those who know a little about Mexican wrestling!
Ashley Massaro wrote to one of her fan sites regarding her relationship with Matt Hardy: "I realize some of you aren't sure of what to think about Matt and I but I just wanted to drop a little note to let you guys know how unbelievably happy he makes me. He truly is an amazing man and we are super happy together. I hope you guys will be supportive and happy for us because I can assure you; he really is such a good person and treats me so well. Were perfect for each other trust me! Thanks so much for understanding guys! This is going to be an amazing year! With Trish helping me out and Matt teaching me all kinds of new things, I'm getting the best training possible, Fit and the rest of the agents at WWE are amazing as well! So keep watching guys."
In addition to Matt Hardy dating Ashley Massaro, looks like Joey Mercury of MNM and Christy Hemme are an item.
FYE retail stores will be selling a special limited edition Jake Roberts DVD set, similar to The Ultimate Warrior DVD. The Roberts DVD is scheduled to be released on 11/1.
Despite being "fired" on WWE RAW, Jim Ross' bio as executive vice president of business strategies remains on WWE's business website. Ross' ten year contract with WWE - during which he recieves $300,000 per year, a cut of each show's gate and stock options - expires on October 29, 2006.
In addition to receiving only brief confirmation that WWE planned to build towards a Hogan vs. Austin match, Steve Austin was also not informed that his angle on the WWE RAW Homecoming show would lead to Jim Ross' firing from the RAW commentary booth. Sources say that Steve Austin was not at all pleased with how his good friend was removed from the show; the general feeling amongst all those close to Ross is that if WWE does not have a plan to rectify the situation, frustrations will not ease.
From PWInsider:
A settlement conference between Brock Lesnar and WWE has been scheduled for Thursday, December 15th, 2005 at 10:00 AM in Bridgeport, CT. If all goes well, the two sides will likely put this thing behind them and move on. It'll be interesting to see how WWE reacts to the New Japan claims that they will be airing the show where Lesnar won the title in the United States on In Demand. One of the main things WWE was very set on was Lesnar not working within the US.
There had been talk of moving Michael Cole to the RAW announce team but the general feeling is that they still want to bring in someone from the outside. Ross is expected to be brought back to the WWE.com announce team for Unlimited and may even be brought back to the main booth due to all the negative feedback. Keep in mind that none of this would have happened if Mike Goldberg had signed the WWE deal.
Mick Foley will face Carlito at Taboo Tuesday as everyone knows. The plan right now is to have the fans pick which persona Foley will play - Cactus Jack, Dude Love, or Mankind (MY opinion, or HOPE is that it will be Cactus Jack).
This comes from Dave Meltzer and WrestlingObserver.com:
Due to Spike TV preempting Impact on 11/5 for the live Ultimate Fighter special, the show had been moved to Thursday, 11/3 several weeks back. At first it was scheduled as a regular episode of Impact.
However, with ratings well above projections on Saturday nights, Spike has given TNA its first prime time special, a two-hour taped show from 9-11 p.m. on 11/3. No details are available but it will be more like a Clash of Champions special than a regular episode of Impact. The show will be taped on either 10/25 or 10/26, more likely the latter.
Well, that does it for another edition of WrestleBeat. I'll be back next time with more news and notes from the World of Professional Wrestling.
So, until next time, KEEP BOTH FEET ON THE MAT AND YOUR PUNCHES ABOVE THE BELT! Later, Michael.
