Michael Porter's WrestleBeat (10-27-05)
Hey there again, Wrestling Fans! And welcome to another edition of WrestleBeat. I've got a lot of news and notes from the World of Professional Wrestling. So, let's get right to business.
I open WrestleBeat this week on an EXTREMELY SAD note as I announce the passing of another Legend of Professional Wrestling with the loss of The Crusher Reggie Lisowski.
This is from Dave Meltzer and WrestlingObserver.com:
The One, Da Only, Da Crusher, one of the most colorful wrestlers and the biggest drawing card in the history of several cities in the old AWA territory passed away last Friday night at the age of 79.
Reggie Lisowski was a former weightlifter who was a cult idol and the top draw in most of the AWA territory during the 60s and 70s, until the Hulk Hogan era. He was best known world wide as tag team partner of penis the Bruiser in the 60s but was box office as a singles wrestler far more than all the far more accomplished wrestlers that the AWA liked to use.
One of the most Legendary feuds in Professional Wrestling history involved The Crusher and the late penis the Bruiser against Ray Stevens and Nick Bockwinkle in the AWA territory. These matches often ended in blood-baths like none ever seen before OR since.
The Crusher and penis the Bruiser's exploits OUTSIDE the ring were equally Legendary, as they were GENUINE tough guys and NOTORIOUS bar room brawlers...OFTEN leaving a tavern in near-ruins following one of their battles with big, bad and drunk patrons who wanted to make a name for themselves by beating up some Pro Wrestlers. These patrons often were carted away to some local medical facility.
Next up...I returned to Country 103.1 KKCY Marysville/Yuba City, CA. this (Thursday) morning on the Dave Logasa in the Morning show with my WrestleShoot Report.
This week, I discussed the medical updates on Jim Ross and Kevin Nash, which can be read below in WrestleBeat.
I also talked about the passing of the Legendary Crusher, Reggie Lisowski at the age of 79, as you read at the opening of this week's WrestleBeat.
And finally...as you can also read below, I announced the UWA (United Wrestling Alliance) bringing in Capt. Lou Albano, The Iron Sheik, and Tammy Lynn Sytch (formerly known as WWF/E Superstar, Sunny), the widow of the late Chris Candido on Sunday Nov.13th from 12:00noon-2:00pm at Dimentions in Time Comics in Sacramento, CA.
And that was it for this week. I'll be back next Thursday for another edition of Michael Porter's WrestleShoot on Country 103.1 KKCY Marysville/Yuba City.

Ryan Clark reports that after a surgery last week that saw the removal of more than eight inches of his colon, Jim Ross has returned home from the hospital.
“The biggest win from this whole thing was coming out without there being any cancer,” said Ross from his home in Oklahoma. “There was a period for about four days where we didn’t know what to expect.”
Being cancer-free isn’t the only thing J.R. has to be excited about - he also knows that the end result of the surgery means he will no longer be in constant pain, which he has been in for months.
“I started feeling really bad right after SummerSlam,” admitted Ross. “I knew something was wrong because the pain kept getting worse. If it wasn’t for RAW, I don’t know what I would’ve done. All the pain seemed to go away over those two hours every Monday night. When I was on the air, adrenaline took over, and I was OK.”
Moving forward, Ross knows that a healthier lifestyle is a must. He already has plans to change his diet and begin an exercise program.
Ryan Clark also reports this on WWE Taboo Tuesday:
These matches have been confirmed along with the stipulations about voting. Here is how the line-up is as of this past weekend:
1) WWE Championship - Triple Threat Match: John Cena (c) vs. Kurt Angle vs. The Big Show, Kane or Shawn Michaels.
2) Steve Austin vs. The Coach.
Match Choices: Verbal Debate, Arm Wrestling Contest or Street Fight.
Stipulation: If Austin wins, J.R. is re-hired. If The Coach wins, Austin is fired.
3) WWE Intercontinental Championship Match: Ric Flair vs. Triple H.
Match Choices: Singles, Submission or Steel Cage.
4) Mick Foley vs. Carlito.
Match Choices: Foley can wrestle as Dude Love, Cactus Jack or Mankind
5) World Tag Team Championship Match: Lance Cade & Trevor Murdoch (c's) vs. Losers of WWE Title Poll.
6) RAW vs. SmackDown Tag Match: Edge & Chris Masters vs. Winners of SmackDown Choices.
SmackDown Choices: JBL, Mysterio, Hardy, Christian or Holly.
7) WWE Women's Championship - Fullfill Your Fantasy Battle Royal: Trish Stratus (c) vs. Ashley vs. Mickie James vs. Maria vs. Torrie Wilson vs. Candice vs. Victoria.
Match Choices: Lingerie, Leather & Lace or Cheerleader Outfits.
8) Eugene with a Legend in his corner vs. Rob Conway in a Handicap Match.
Fans Choices: Hacksaw Jim Duggan, Superfly Jimmy Snuka or Kamala the Ugandan Giant.
Dave Meltzer is reporting that Kevin Nash, who was scheduled to face Jeff Jarrett Sunday Night's TNA’s ‘Bound For Glory’ pay per view, was rushed to hospital on Saturday.
Here is an update on Kevin Nash as reported by Ryan Clark:
The latest on Nash is that he was having chest pains and called 911 from his hotel room on Saturday night. Terry Taylor went to the hospital with him and there is no word on the status of tonight's main event.
The following was posted on TNA's website: www.TNAwrestling.com has learned that Kevin Nash was taken to an Orlando hospital on Saturday. TNA management has been in constant contact with Nash, who placed a call to 911 from his hotel room after falling ill shortly before the fanfest on Saturday afternoon.
Ultimately, Nash was NOT medically cleared and did NOT work at the TNA-Bound for Glory PPV.
And now, the latest on Kevin Nash is that he is NOW at home recovering with his family. While no official diagnosis was released it is believed that he either had a heart attack or a “mild cardiac event.”
Tim Brown reports these stories:
Despite trying to hang out and talk through things, Lita and Edge are no longer an item off-camera. It’s said that with all that’s happened this year, the spark is just gone.
Lita and Matt Hardy have completely parted ways. As previously reported, Hardy is now dating Ashley Massaro, however the two haven’t been seeing each other much due to schedule conflicts.
There is a rumor going around that former ECW star Roadkill has signed or will be signing a developmental deal with WWE.
WWE is hoping to finalize a deal for the entire World Class Championship Wrestling tape collection by the end of the year. WCCW was the Texas-based promotion owned by the Von Erich Family, now owned by the sole-surviving Von Erich brother, Kevin.
For those wondering, Boogeyman and Mickie James were both scouted and brought in to WWE by Ted DiBiase.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that John Cena is up for a major role in a remake of the movie Predator. If he gets it, it could be a huge opportunity for him outside the world of wrestling.
And FINALLY...at this time, I NEED to announce that I will be taking a 3 or 4 week haitus from WrestleBeat. I NEED to devote some time to MYSELF, as some personal, health, and financial issues, as well as some computer problems have arisen in the last few weeks that will REQUIRE me to take some time to devote to MYSELF...for a change!
I have NO idea as to just how long I will be dealing with these issues. However...as I try to come to grips with them, I will continue to check, whenever I can, on any MAJOR Pro Wrestling news that may come to light. And, if any MAJOR stories DO break, I WILL report them in a SPECIAL, SHORTENED edition of WrestleBeat.
So...I would SINCERELY like to apoligize for ANY inconvienence that this brings to the nearly 30 websites that feature WrestleBeat. YOU have put much faith in ME and WrestleBeat! And for THAT, I am VERY grateful! WrestleBeat WILL be back...IF you want it! AND to all my readers from around the world...as well as ALL of the Northern California INDY Organizations and workers on whom that I have been reporting...I also apoligize to YOU. Just remember...I WILL BE BACK! I'm just not certain WHEN. I came back BEFORE, and I'll come back again!
However...if you (the websites) feel the need to replace me and WrestleBeat...I DO UNDERSTAND, and I will harbor NO ill feelings. THANK YOU ALL for your understanding!
NOW, I ALSO want you ALL to know that when I DO come back...I MAY have a MAJOR announcement of my own to make! I CAN'T go into details at this time, but if this DOES come to pass, it could be "B-I-G"!!!
Well, that does it for this edition of WrestleBeat. I'll be back next time...whenever that may be...with more news and notes from this world we LOVE...the Wonderful World of Professional Wrestling.
So, until THEN, remember what I always say...KEEP BOTH FEET ON THE MAT AND YOUR PUNCHES ABOVE THE BELT! And...GOD BLESS YOU ALL! Later, Michael.
