Michael Porter's WrestleBeat SPECIAL EDITION (11-14-05)
Hey Wrestling Fans! This is a shortened, SPECIAL EDITION...Special Report of WrestleBeat.
Due to the occurances of yesterday (Sunday), I felt the need to post this SPECIAL EDITION of WrestleBeat.
First off, as I'm sure that you've heard by now...we've lost ANOTHER Brother from the World of Professional Wrestling, with the passing yesterday morning (Sunday Nov.13th) of the GREAT WWE Superstar Eddie Guerrero, who was found dead in his hotel bathroom at the Minneapolis Marriott City Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Eddie was in Minneapolis for the RAW and SMACKDOWN Supershow TV Tapings last night, before both brands set out today for their European tours. Eddie Guerrero was 38.
(SPECIAL UPDATE HERE)
It hasn't been OFFICIALLY confirmed as of yet...to MY knowledge, but it appears that due to the fact that SO many WWE Superstars are wishing to honor Eddie, and that they have requested to forego the European tour so they may attend the Guerrero funeral on Wednesday, WWE will POSSIBLY honor those wishes and postpone the tour until a later date.
Now...what follows is a number of stories from various writers and websites. I would SINCERELY like to THANK them and gratefully acknowledge their contributions to this edition of WrestleBeat!
This comes from The Star Tribune, www.startribune.com
WWE Star Found Dead in Minneapolis Hotel
Nephew Finds Eddie Guerrero, 38, After Wrestler Fails to Answer Wake-up Call
MINNEAPOLIS (Nov. 13) - World Wrestling Entertainment superstar Eduardo Gory Guerrero was found dead in his hotel room Sunday morning in Minneapolis, where he was scheduled to appear that evening in a WWE Supershow.
When Guerrero, 38, didn't respond to a wake-up call, hotel security at Minneapolis Marriott City Center and Guerrero's nephew and fellow WWE wrestler, Chavo Guerrero, forced entry into the room shortly after 7 a.m., police said.
The 5-feet-8, 220-pound wrestler was found on the floor. Attempts to revive him were unsuccessful.
There were no apparent signs of foul play or suicide, police said. An autopsy was planned at the Hennepin County medical examiner's office.
He was a featured star on the UPN series "WWE Smackdown!" and son of Mexican wrestler Gory Guerrero.
He is survived by his wife, Vickie, and daughters Shaul, 14; Sherilyn, 9; and Kaylie Marie, 3, according to the WWE Web site.
"This is a huge loss," said WWE chairman Vince McMahon. "Eddie was a wonderful, fun-loving human being. Eddie was a consummate performer."
Chavo Guerrero and McMahon said Guerrero was open about his past drug and alcohol abuse but they said he'd been sober for four years.
Guerrero was in the Twin Cities with 60 to 80 other wrestlers to film "Friday Night Smackdown" at the Target Center.
"I know Eddie would want the show to go on," Chavo Guerrero said.
In February 2004, Guerrero became the second wrestler of Hispanic heritage to be WWE champion when he defeated Brock Lesnar, a former University of Minnesota wrestling standout. Guerrero lost the title four months later.
In May 2004, UPN aired the special "Cheating Death, Stealing Life: The Eddie Guerrero Story." The one-hour program chronicled his childhood and his struggle with drug addiction that almost cost him his job, family and life before his recovery and eventual capture of the WWE championship.
Guerrero grew up in El Paso, Texas. He and his three older brothers were all wrestlers.
This comes from Ryan Clark:
Superstar Billy Graham announced tonight (Sunday) on Dave Meltzer's radio program that Eddie Guerrero's funeral will be held at his church in Phoenix, AZ in the next few days.
Graham was very close to Eddie outside of the ring, Graham said he has been asked by Eddie's wife to perform the service. Graham said that it will be an honor to preside over Eddie's service since he was so close to him.
It is believed that Eddie had suffered a fatal heart attack according to Meltzer which led to his death. Eddie has been clean and sober for overmfour years after dealing with drug abuse.
Graham said the funeral will be held on Wednesday.
Ryan Clark also reports that there are news stories on Eddie's passing on the following sites:

This comes from Wade Keller and PWTorch.com:
Eddie Guerrero was found in his hotel room in Minneapolis with his toothbrush in his mouth. He apparently died while brushing his teeth. At this point, the belief among WWE personnel is that Guerrero died of heart failure.
Shortly after Guerrero's body was found and removed from the room, Chris Benoit, Rey Mysterio, Dean Malenko and Chavo Guerrero visited the hotel room to say their goodbyes. WWE wrestlers and staffers were visibly shaken and emotional while leaving the hotel to go the Target Center, the site of tonight's Raw/Smackdown taping. Word from WWE sources is that the tenor of tonight's taping will be dramatically different and that the Smackdown show will need to be revised.
Guerrero's death is now the lead story on WWE.com, under the headline "Tragic Loss". The article says that WWE is "deeply saddened" by Guerrero's death, and provides no further details on his passing.
And PERSONALLY...I would like to add MY condolences, my thoughts, and my prayers in Eddie's memory, to his family, his friends, and his fans.
Eddie Guerrero was a GREAT wrestler, a loving family man, and a loyal friend to all of those who were fortunate enough to call him "FRIEND"!
One of MY biggest regrets is that I was NEVER fortunate enough to meet "Latino Heat". And for this, I will FOREVER feel deprived of meeting this WONDERFUL man.
Alright...on to a happier note, I was on hand on Sunday Nov.13th at the BIG UWA Meet and Greet, Autograph Signing, and Photo Session as UWA and Dimensions in Time Presented An Afternoon with the Legends at Dimensions in Time Comics and Collectables at 4235 Arden Way in Sacramento, CA.
WWF/E Hall of Fame Member and Wrestler/Manager, Capt. Lou Albano, WWF/E Hall of Fame Member and former WWF/E Heavyweight and Tag Team Champion, The Iron Sheik, and WWF/E Valet/Wrestler, formerly known as "Sunny", Tammy Lynn Sytch talked with fans, signed autographs, 8x10's and assorted memoibilia, and also posed for Poloroid photos with fans from 12:00 noon until 2:00pm at Dimensions in Time.
A good crowd filed into Dimensions to meet with the Legends and get their autographs...EVEN though the event took place on the same day that we lost Eddie Guerrero
It was GREAT seeing The Iron Sheik after all these years. I was surprised that he remembered me! The Sheik asked me a couple of times if I had heard anything about the cause of Eddie's death. I had NOT heard anything at that time.
I saw Tammy (Sunny) for the first time since meeting her at the World Famous Cow Palace in San Francisco in 1994 or 1995. It was after I had left WWF. She was in great spirits and good humor as she smiled, signed autographs, posed for pictures, and spoke with her fans!
But...THIS was my FIRST EVER meeting with Capt. Lou! I was SOOO excited and honored to be in the presence of The Captain! He was ALWAYS one of my favorite Managers of ALL-TIME...along with Bobby "the Brain" Heenan and "The Mouth of the South" Jimmy Hart.
I had a GREAT time taking the Poloroid photos of the Legends with their fans and getting the time to speak with each of them and have my own Poloroids taken with them all!
THAN YOU, Rob Wilds and Will Louden for the DVD!
EVERYONE who made it out to Dimensions in Time seemed to have a GREAT time rubbing elbows with these legends!
Dimensions in Time Comics and Collectables has a WIDE variety of comics, magazines, books and memoribilia...INCLUDING a LARGE quantity of Pro Wrestling magazines, trading cards, action figures and much more.
They are located at 4235 Arden Way in Sacramento, CA. You can give them a call at (916) 483-1312 or check them out online at www.dimensionsintime.com .
And you can get more info on UWA by going to www.UnitedWrestlingAlliance.com .
Well...that does it for this shortened, SPECIAL EDITION of WrestleBeat. I should be back, as I resume my weekly columns in about two weeks or so...following my hiatus.
PLEASE...remember Eddie Guerrero, his family, his friends, and his fans in your prayers!
And so...until I return with my next edition of WrestleBeat, remember what I say...KEEP BOTH FEET ON THE MAT AND YOUR PUNCHES ABOVE THE BELT! Later, Michael.
