Michael Porter's WrestleBeat (12-27-04)
Hey Wrestling Fans! And welcome to this Year-End edition of WrestleBeat!
I hope that you ALL had a WONDERFUL Holiday Season! Unfortunately, I spent MY Christmas ALONE (one-two-three...ahhhh!). Oh well...we CAN'T have everything! But, I GUARANTEE this...I will NOT be alone NEXT Christmas! Anyway...ENOUGH CRYING!
First up comes this GREAT news from Earthquake John Tenta:
"First of all I'd like to thank everyone for all the long, continued support, and prayers you've been giving me. Secondly, I'd like to wish everyone a great Christmas, and all the best in the New Year. Thirdly, I received some VERY encouraging news this past Monday. My tumor is SHRINKING AGAIN! On the scan, my doctor said she had to look very closely and slowly at the scan or she may have missed the tumor. It now looks like just a small dot on the scan. We're trying to finish it off now, as I went through another round of chemo on Monday, and get a follow-up dose this Monday. The plan is two more rounds, then hopefully the tumor will be gone, and we'll talk about preventitive maintenance chemo. I was sooooo relieved, you guys. Before the blood transfusion, I was getting a few negative thoughts creeping in. Now I feel good again, and confident I'll be getting a second chance at life. I'm not ready to go skiing like I read Dr. Death Steve Williams is(That is great for him! Go Steve!), but I'm feeling good. I'm not out of the woods yet, but as I've been telling my son for years since he was a baby, "I'm the biggest, baddest gorilla in the jungle!" I'll find my way out soon. God bless you all, and thanks again for everything. Merry Christmas!

We now have one more name to add to the list, as NFL Legend, "The Minister of Defense" Reggie White, passed away on Sunday morning, at the age of 43. He passed away just one week after his 43rd birthday
Initial reports say death was caused by a massive heart attack. However, White's wife, Sara says she believes that he died from Respiratory Failure, brought on by Sleep Apnea. Sleep Apnea causes one to stop breathing many times during sleep.
Personally, I know about Sleep Apnea, as I have had Apnea for many years.
White, who was an ordained minister, was considered by many to be the greatest Defensive NFL player of All-Time. He played for the Green Bay Packers, the Philadelphia Eagles, and the Carolina Panthers.
Reggie made appearances at several wrestling events, and had one high profile Pro Wrestling match against Steve McMichael at the May 18, 1997 WCW Slamboree PPV in Charlotte, North Carolina.
White lost to McMichael in a Battle of NFL Superstars Match.
Now, let's get on to some happier news.
One of my all-time favorites, Ricky "the Dragon" Steamboat has been in a trial-run as a road agent for the WWE. It is now possible that, if both parties agree, Steamboat will be on the road full-time as an agent. I for one, hopes that this is the case.
Nature Boy Ric Flair has signed a new three-year contract extention with the WWE, almost assuring that the Nature Boy will finish out his career with the WWE.
In a follow-up to a past-mentioned in WrestleBeat situation between Hardcore Holly and Rene Dupree, it appears that Dupree told Holly that he knew he (Holly) was upset with him regarding the situation with a traffic ticket and gave him full permission to take it out on him if it would make him feel better. Holly obviously took him up on the offer, but took it too far in the eyes of many within the company. But given Dupree's invitation to do so, it could be a major contributor to McMahon not firing Holly. It should be noted that Dupree has yet to follow up on any of his promises to Holly regarding the situation, i.e...making it known to Law Enforcement, DMV, and insurance authorities that he (Dupree) was responsible for the ticket.
I'll have more on this as it becomes known.
And finally, once again...REMEMBER...on Sunday January 9th, YOU can be in the studio audience of WrestleShoot TV, with Michael Porter and Wildthing Rob Wilds, as we welcome our VERY SPECIAL GUEST, The Honky Tonk Man! It all takes place at 3:00pm, at the UWA Academy of professional Wrestling, located in the La Sierra Community Center 5325 Engle Rd. in Carmichael, California. And remember that you can log on to www.mapquest.com , then enter YOUR location, and then 5325 Engle Rd. Carmichael, CA., wait a couple of moments, and you'll receive step-by-step directions to the Community Center. We hope to see you ALL there!
Well, that does it for another edition of WrestleBeat. I'll be back next time with more news and notes from the Wonderful World of Professional Wrestling.
I would like to wish you ALL the HAPPIEST, HEALTHIEST, and MOST PROSPEROUS New Year EVER! PLEASE...be SAFE while partying this New Year's Eve, and DON'T drink and drive! If you drink...have someone else drive...someone who HASN'T been drinking!
So, until next time, KEEP BOTH FEET ON THE MAT AND YOUR PUNCHES ABOVE THE BELT!
Later, Michael.
